Just wondering what people's opinions are on duvet days? I'm in favour of them but it would be a pain in the ars3 if half your office didn't turn up on a rainy monday morning..

In the US i'm pretty sure you have to give notice for a Duvet Day, so that doesn't happen....

    Had to google it.
Sure, take a day off if you like but don't expect me to pay you.

Basically taking a day off to spend the day in bed without being sick or having a good reason...

....never heard that phrase before. So its basically just taking a sick day because you're too hungover to go to work?

Americans have personal days for whne they are teetering on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

I don't do duvet days, I think it is unfair to co-workers.

Consequently I get really pissed off if someone suggests I am trying to pull a fast one when I'm actually sick.

tbh working in america you'd need them, the constant fake niceness you have to do and endure others fake niceness would actually make me kill myself within hours.

I'd love that. I like fake niceness. Better than honesty.

I've been having duvet days since January - is that a record?

it just feels like they are buttering up to you just so you can pay their wages tbh.

They use it to make people work harder, i probably make up for a duvet day by dossing all the time! :D

Notice for a duvet day! Doesn't that defeat the purpose, I thought a duvet day is where you just decided to not go to work because you were too tired (or some other lame excuse).

But here they make it perfectly clear they think your a pain in the arse, and still get their wages. Fake niceness FTW!

I think the idea of Duvet Days, is you get a couple of days built in to your annual holidays, where you can wake up and say f*ck it, I'm not going in today. The purpose of it, was to discourage staff from doing it as a "sicky" and be honest about it i.e. I can't be arsed going in today, and not being worried about any ill feeling when you go back to work. Therefore building an attitude of "my employers are so cool, they understand me, I could never leave them in the lurch by ringing in sick when they need me".

    Never work here.

Fake niceness, I'm tellin ya, its the way forward.

Did anyone else think that this was where all the employees bring in their duvets and mess about for a day in work?like a team bonding exercise or something.

as far as i'm aware, its just a sick day, where you call in sick, but your not really sick, if that makes sence

my place has duvet days. you get them as a sort of bonus for winning incentives and the like. you get paid for it too... so it is like a sick day but with the boss' blessing

you're forgetting something, they are american, logical thinking doesn't exist in the average american brain.
