freesat query

Just wondering if the following would work:

Connect a freesat HD receiver to a HDMI slot on LCD tv
Connect a sky plus box via scart

Reason I ask is that Sky HD does not seem worth it currently with the limited channels and the € 15 euro per month charge, if sky dropped that charge i would be tempted.

    Anyway, any recommendations.

yup that would work fine, just need to make sure your tv will accept audio via the hdmi

You will need 3 sat cables for this, unless you're happy to unplug one of the Sky+ ones when you want to watch freesat.

Just wondering how to confirm this as the spec for the tv states:

Sound Effects BBE ViVA HD3D, Virtual Dolby Digital
    Audio Controls Sound mode
    Speakers Included 2 speakers
Output Power / Total 20 Watt
    Features Auto volume adjustment
    Speaker(s) 2 x right/left channel speaker - built-in - 10 Watt

    Connections
Connector Type 1 x digital audio output (optical) ( TOS Link )
    3 x HDMI ( 19 pin HDMI Type A )
    1 x VGA input ( 15 PIN HD D-Sub (HD-15) )
    1 x audio line-in ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm )
    1 x component video input ( RCA phono x 3 )
    1 x composite video/audio input ( RCA phono x 3 )
    1 x USB ( 4 PIN USB Type A )
    1 x headphones ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm )
    1 x audio line-out ( RCA phono x 2 )
    2 x SCART ( 21 PIN SCART )

Most tv's I've seen or had with hdmi inputs can carry audio from the source over the hdmi, but I always like to see it in action for myself. Its probably in the more detailed manual of your tv rather than the quick specs.

That will stop you from recording two programmes at the same time whilst watching something else of the freesat box.

True its a good feature for sure, a stacker/de stacker is another option if the original cable quality is good.

Well basically you feed the stacker with two cables, it then shifts one of the feeds on to a higher frequency band and send both feeds down the one cable, the reverse happens at the receiver end. The need for good cable is paramount as the higher freq you use the more loss per metre.
