Myself and two of my friends are planning to head off in late August for a week or so and don't particularly have anywhere in mind yet - we want somewhere cool, not crazy hot, easy to get by with English, friendly locals, stuff to do and see and a good nightlife (we don't ask for much!) - any recommendations for us?

I did a similar holiday (4 lads in our late 20s) in August 2006 to Slovenia, we had a blast and enjoyed driving our rental car around, doing river rafting in the mountains, chilling on the coast and especially renting an apartment for the last three days in Ljubjana - almost everyone spoke English, was friendly, the women were gorgeous and of course everything was cheap compared to home! I've never been to Croatia so would I be right in assuming it's as nice as Slovenia? Is the nightlife kicking in Dubrovnik? Anywhere within 5 or 6 hours flight time would be good for us, I'm thinking Eastern Europe but Scandinavia or wherever would be an option if anyone has been and has good stuff to say about it!
