Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this TV. After a month or so reading reviews I think I have finally settled on this TV.

There is just one thing that bothers me is the difference of the warranty of this TV (1 year) with that of a Panasonic (5 years). Should I be thinking more towards a Panasonic because of the warranty?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've spent a lot of time looking at this TV myself apparently its the LCD tv of choice at the moment but there is a new Samsung on the way.

    www.hdtvtest.co.uk for the full review

Did either of you get this TV? What do you think of it?
Am going to get it myself soon, to replace my 32V2000
.............well move my 32V2000 to the back room :D
The reviews I've read are all good and if it any improvement on my present Sony then it'll be great.

As for the 1year warranty? I got 3years on my 32V so I'd be expecting at least that if not 5 like most of the UK retailers will give.

I have not bought yet but probably in the next few months. As for the warranty I'm not sure but it could hardly be one year? The picture performance looks much improved over its predecessor though and the price is lower. The chassis itself might be a little lighter so it might only suit a static mount.

Would that not be the series 6 thats being advertised at the moment.Ye know, the one with all the chelsea players.Would never payas much for a samsung as a sony.Saw a pretty expensive one in a friends house not so long ago and couldnt get over how cheap it felt

No i haven't bought it yet but am hoping to buy it next week. Was looking towards getting it from komplett.ie. I think they are only offering the one year warranty.

Whick UK retailer are you planning on purchasing it from that might offer a 3+ yr warranty?

Komplett are by far the cheapest in Ireland, but I'm going to ring richersounds today to get their price and see what warranty they'll give. Will post again later and let you know what they say.

A mate of mine was sent up so some sony training yesterday. Im nearly sure that this was the tv he was on about, apologies if I am mistaken. He was telling me that it had a dynamic contrast ratio of about 33000:1, which I think is very poor. Why not just go for a Samsung? They are a great tv, the only thing they lack in is sound. You really need a HTS with them. I haven't yet seen this Sony telly, but I will find out more about it today.

I know, argued this with a guy in a Sony Centre during the week as well as the fact that they only give a one year warranty. He replied that Sony tv's dont go wrong thats why they only give a 1yr:confused: I said that others give 5 to which he replied yes because they are of poorer quality I asked him to explain his logic but he couldnt! Smart guy wouldnt buy a battery of him.

Well I guess that they have a lot of overheads to pay, whereas websites wouldn't have as many.

This tv is nice. Certainly more of a looker than the W3000 in terms of styling, but the picture quality is slightly worse.

The speakers are worse, the remote is worse, There's one less component input too.

Anyone considering this set should settle for the new V4000. It aint got the "x.v colour" engine, or the fancy see through glass, but everything else seems the same, and the picture off it seems no different when receiving the same feed over hdmi. It's far more reasonably priced too.

Yep.I'm looking to get one of these in the next few months.I've seen them in a shop and i thought the picture was stunning. It looks great as well. I'm waiting for the price to drop at the moment.I'll probably be buying online. In most places at the moment its about 780(Pounds sterling that is).I'm waitin for that to fall to about 700 and hopefully then, i should be able to get it delivered to here for not much more than 900 euro

The other tv i'm looking at is the 40D3500.I would be able to get that right now for around 770euro.It aint as advanced as the v4000 but as far as i can see it would do the job. Also it has to be said that a full HD sony for that price is a good deal. The v4000 would be better in a few areas, connectivity, black level and SD PQ.I'm wondering though would i be much better off payin a bit more and getting the newer, more modern tv??Any opinions greatly appreciated??

Between v4000 and D3500, V all the way. V is very, very well priced as it is, and one more hd input, higher contrast, improved bravia engine, swivel stand, nice looking set in general.

I bought the sony 40v2900 last year and while it is superb for dvd & bluray the SD picture from standard sky is terrible - especially football. As most of my viewing is sport I was thinking of changing to the 40w4000 or would the football picture be just as bad . I dont feel sky HD is good value for money so is this lcd the answer or would I be better off with a HD Plasma - if so any recommendations bearing in mind football is starting again soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Zonda999

I think youre probably right.I would be paying a bit more money but i would be getting a much better 'set.Ye know if i was going to be spending around 800e anyway, the extra 100e or so wouldnt kill me.I just want a tv that will stun me when i play the ps3 or watch a bluray and this is the best withn my budget.I only ever really considered a sony.I hate being a badge snob:(

Scanner; Reading your post has reminded me why SD performance is so important in a HD tv.I think a good plasma to look at in yo situation is the panasonic 42pz80 or 42px80.The difference being that the z is full HD(1920 x 1080) and the x aint1024 x 768).If i were you, i would get the full hd model alright. Its worth saying that you should buy online because i always find that panasonic plasmas are overpriced in shops here

If you wanna go Sony again, get a 40X3500 with motionflow.

If you wanna go the plasma route, go panasonic.

SD on a HDTV will never look perfect but with adjustment of your settings can be good. I've a V2000 (intending on getting a W4000 soon). The PQ of SD picture was terrible out of the box so I messed about with the settings, and I got it a bit better, still not good enough though. Then I was pointed to avforums dot com by someone here. They pretty much have a thread for each TV, in it you'll find suggestions of the best settings for each input type. I did it for my TV and was impressed by the difference in SD PQ compared to out of the box.

How does the 40W4000 compare to the Samsung 40656? I haven't seen them beside each other in any shop yet, but http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/ give the Sony a better review. Powercity are also giving a free Sony BD player with it for €1650, which isn't bad. hey have the 40656 for €1350 though (and I already have a PS3).

Is the Sony noticeably better for Blu-ray and Games?

I would not buy the Sony W4000 LCD's. Toshiba ZF and Samsung A656 both have 100hz processing, the Sony does not. The Toshiba is, from my research, the best LCD currently out there.

100hz is overated. It was good for tube TV's. Its now/was the Bravia 2 engine which they have now 'renamed' 100hz because they relaized people are looking for the 100hz badge not knowing otherwise due to lack of knowledge. The 40''W4000 out performs previous models with 100z.

Sony have just announced a new w series with 100hz, the w4500. Have a look here.I also wouldnt think it worth it, though.I wouldnt bother with 100hz.Some tvs that have the feature perform better with it off anyway. In the case of the w series, the w4000 is dear enough already so i cant see many splashing out the extra for the w4500

They haven't renamed "Bravia Engine 2" to "100hz" they brought out a new model the W4500 with Bravia Engine 2 and 100hz. See here

I do think 100hz is over rated, it can cause as many problems as it fixes. I read a review that reconed that the W4000 was as good as the X3500 which is 100hz but the cavet was that was preformance for price and the X3500 is massivly expensive compared to a W4000.

Im going to go for a Sammy Series 6, fantastic bang for buck.

Plenty of it going around, I reckon you need a Degress isn Computers, Electronic Engineering, Physics, Video Production and a few others to be able to make a 100% decsion on a TV these days!

99% of sales guys are full of **** just trying to make a sale, been there done that my self ;)

By all accounts a the W4000 is a fantastc telly and anyone whould be happy with one. I would be tempted my self, esp by the new W4500 but the price of a Sammy Series 6 is so good for what you get IMHO.

How did Pixmania work out? They dont always get the best press!
I am considering buying from Teleworld.
Only 1 year guarantee like shops here.
However I am concerned about buying such a large item online.

I also have the option of getting it from Amazon to NI address.

PowerCity has it for €1499 with a Sony BlueRay which I dont want.
Local Sony shop have same deal for €1699

Would welcome advice from anyone who has bought this size LCD online.

Absolutely no issues what so ever. TV arrived yesterday in perfect condition via UPS. It was shipped Tuesday last week from France and arrived quickly. Tracking was available the whole way. UPS are good. They look after your stuff.

€1699 and €1499 is a ripp off! All in all it cost me €1342 including VAT and Delivery and thats still not the cheapest! , I can get the VAT back as I am VAT registered so it will eventually have cost me €1109, it would have cost me €100 to drive up to Northern Ireland, Food, Fuel etc....!. I probably wouldnt have saved very much after the VAT is taken off. Yes its alot cheaper at Amazon. Wish they would start shipping this kind of stuff to the Republic..... but hey..... thats Ireland for you. Out of most loops. Those Blueray deals are bull****. Its that Sony model they cant sell, think they are trying to get rid of them by hiding the cost. I have a PS3 and rented BR movie yesturday.....it blew me away. Next purchase, Sky HD. Let me know what you decide to do!

I did and still prefer the Sony.

Yeah, spent ages trying to decide between the two. Watched a football match in HD on both and the Sony was much better, despite not having 100hz capability, so that made my mind up.

The Sony doesn't seem to be available online anymore. Thanks.

I ordered it from the Belfast store (there's none in Dublin).

It wasn't on the RicherSounds.ie site but they had a few in stock. They mentioned that pretty much anything on the UK site can be got in if not in stock anyway. The TV is on the UK site here.

Contact them via their forum here or give them a call - great customer service.

Sony Centre in Blanch have a 46W4000 for just under 2k ex-display. Haven't shopped around so probably cheaper else where but may be of interest to someone.

I'm hoping to buy this set just before Christmas. My local Sony Centre has it for an obscene €1699 but I can get it from komplett.ie for €1200

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=348388&cks=ASS&assoc=0B99BCDD-9E4C-4AAC-A648-B10B70BEC8DB

Is that the best deal around or does anyone know of somewhere I may be able to get it for closer to €1000?

I don't mind purchasing online from the uk if I could save a few Euro but most retailers won't send the tv over here.

    Suggestions please?

Try richer sounds in Belfast. They ship to the south for £20 if you mention boards.ie. If the TV is not on the ".ie" website but on the ".com", they will ship it over without the extra cost. I see it here for £800. Give them a call in the belfast store to order it.
