i couldn't find a more suitable forum for my question. someone in here might be able to help me. a few scumbags decided to use my wall to express their artistic creativity last weekend. has anyone any advice on what i could use to remove it. its red spray paint. i tried scrubbing with hot water and a nail brush but to no avail. is there any chemicals that i could use. thanks in advance.

ps if there's a better forum for my question please let me know.

Things I can think off off hand are thinners, sugar soap, paint remover all available from hardware stores. BUT it depends on the wall, if its painted then these things could make things worse (painting over it is probably better in that case). If its bricks or rendering then you could be ok.

For oil based paint: turpentine or acetone (nail varnish remover)

For acrylic paint (= layer of coloured plastic) : wirebrush, sandpaper/sandblast to fracture the coating, then one of the above solvents. A blue flame may damage the acrylic enough to make the other solvents more effective.

Wait for a breezy day before using the solvents . They have harmful vapour and in still air breathing apparatus would be necessary.

I think they use pressure washers a lot of times, or some sort of pressure washer that has chemicals in it. That's what I think they use around Los Angeles.

I work for a Construction Co. We had a problem with Graffiti Artist (I'm using the word Artist lightly).

But we get a product called Graffex Graffiti Remover from Enterprise Sales in Tallaght Dublin. T 01 4625132. Not sure if they sell to the general public but you could always ask. Good luck hope it's not too late.

you could always try meeting these vandals in the middle somehow. pewrhaps, learn to graff yourself and then paint something better over their work[which i presume is their name scribbled in red paint and not a painting]you would not be doing anything illegal i think as its your property although the council might not agree. as an artist who learnt to spraypaint i can tell you i find it the freest art form of all i tried. if you teach yourself to be creative with your problem you might start something positive rolling from what sounds negative.

    this is comical.

haha of course not my good fellow...let me reply by saying I think your equation of graffiti to stealing is erroneous.the only thing they have in common is that they are illegal. Gay sex was also once illegal but is not now. the world was flat and we were the centre, not so now. perhaps graffiti too will one day be legal.the mindset of our culture grows and changes over time.if enough people want to ,say, smoke canabis, then the laws should change eventually to allow it, same with graffiti.because I am part of our society and it should not just be the rich or powerful few who get listened to when it comes to the rules governing our actions.[the law] perhaps if we treated ourselves like adults and were not nannied by the govt. we would self-regulate ourselves and u would see better art on our walls, not some kid scribbling his moniker in red paint on your private property.or maybe I am just a dreamer. But if I dont dream and hold out for the manifestation of the highest ideal, I would get very depressed.

you could also dicsuss the artisitc merits of the piece, this being the art forum. If you want to dicuss the legality of it, I'd suggest AH.

How could I discuss the artistic merit of the piece if I cant see it ?
and the op clearly thinks its got to go !

    I find it comical.... still..

Please feel free to post your address and maybe someone will come alone and paint an amazing piece on your property :)

The only thing that counts is the op question, he wants it removed.. :)As I said its comical suggesting that you learn to paint to paint over it..

Ah, my apologies - thougt you were the OP. But why are you posting comments in an art forum about something you've never seen...? A bit like a blind man commentating on a football match.

My place if four floors up and in Berlin. Good luck to you on that one. (Of course, if they're any good, they're more than welcome)

Do you read what you post ? ;)
you re the guy who suggested in your previous post that we should discuss the merit of the work !

And it was me that pointed out the obvious.. that we dont know what the work is so why discuss it. The op (not me) and you didnt even know that basic fact, the OP wants it removed.. and you are discussing or trying to suggest we should be discussing its merits ?????????? whats the point ? he wants it removed, and others are suggesting he learns to paint ?

It would help if you actually read the post above .

Is living withing the law not a good thing in your opinion?
Gay sex was also once illegal but is not now.....
Bad comparison: I assume you mean gay sex with the permission of the other party. But graffiti usually is done with no permission of the other party. Not the same at all.
... graffiti too will one day be legal....
It's already legal if done on behalf of of the owner of the object to be painted. So no problem with our society. .....Unless you refer to graffiti vandalism of other peoples property....

I have read the above post, repeating it makes no difference. I know exactly what the OP asked.

If you look at the very top of this forum you'll read a little tag marked "Arts & Crafts". Whereby we discuss - guess what? - arts and crafts!! If you're going to contribute to start (or contribute to) a thread in arts and crafts it helps to be familar with what you're talking about!

Graffiti removal is not an art from (heaven knows what the thread is doing here, but in fairness, the OP did point that he knew not where to put it). If you DON'T think grafitti is art, fair enough, but again: why bring it here?
