    Hi all,

Got engaged a couple of weeks ago and still havent found a ring that I like ! I have been to shops in Cork and Kilkenny and just havent found anything that really suits me ! I have tried on lots of lovely rings but I just havent been blown away by anything and I really want to love the ring when its going to cost so much money. I am thinking now that I would like an antique ring. Can anyone recommed any good jewellers and antique jewellers in the Cork area ? Not that long living in Cork so not sure where to go.

    Thanks

If you're in Cork, then hop into your car and drive 1 hour down the road to Killarney - there's a beautiful little antique jewellery shop there called Inne (that should be i - n - n - e fada, as in the Irish for yesterday, but don't no how to get an e fada..). There are just the most amazing rings in there, and the lady there is lovely too.

Actually you should make it a weekend in Killarney, stay in one of the (many many many) lovely hotels there and take your time making this important decision!

Thats an absolutely brilliant idea because my friend is trying to convince me to go to Killarney for tomorrow night !!

    Thanks

Do you have a budget in mind? Some of the rings are expensive, but she is open to bargaining! And if you can pay cash, that will knock a few bob off...

Budget of about 5k. How do you know if you are getting value for money with an antique ring though. I just googled it there and couldnt find much information. Looking forward to going there I have to say !!

Oh my God, you will get something beautiful there so!!

If you tell her your budget, she will probably show you rings for around 9k so don't get freaked out - these only seem to be display prices, she will come down on them... there really are the most beautiful pieces there. There's nothing fancy about this shop, but it's small and really special.

She will give you a valuation cert for insurance purposes, really not so sure about the exact details, but I'm sure there would be no problem in taking it to another jeweller for an independent valuation...

    Have a wonderful weekend x

(P.S. I'd love if you just gave a quick post on Monday and let me know if you purchased!!)

it'll depend on how good the sapphire is, and to judge that you'd need to see the sapphire. does it look a nice colour?

Sorry to thread jump here, but not much point in me starting a new thread. Looking to find an antique ring for my OH too but i'm based closer to Dublin. Have been to Weldons and Delphi in Powerscourt but still want to look elsewhere. Would be great to get suggestions on other antique jewellery dealers in Dublin and the surrounding counties, wouldn't mind an hour or two drive. Budget is a bit limited though in terms of antique rings so my selection is going to be that more difficult.

Thanks, and sorry again OP for jumping in!

    Hey Paddy,
I suggest John Brereton's on Caple st (as you come down parnell st towards caple st you are looking at the jewellers) or if budget isn't an option the only place for antique jewellery is John Farrington's off Grafton st.
    Happy shopping
