From reading up on different forums, you would really want a projector with better spec. i.e resolution.
I've just ordered a Optoma HD65 which is supposed to be one of the better budget models.

I agree, the Toshiba is a business projector.

What make it so is the XGA resolution, 4:3 contrast ratio.

For your requirements you should be looking for an entry level Home Theatre projector. 720p res, 16:9 Native Aspect, Contrast Ratio of 2500:1 +.

Good entry level projectors which meet these requirements are

    Optoma HD65,
    BenQ W500,
    Mitsubishi HC1100,
    Panasonic AX200.

Also worth noting is that the Optoma and Mitsubishi look fantastic with HD content (PS3 or Blu-ray etc) but do not handle SD content very well.

The BenQ supports HQV (Hollywood Quality Video), a technology which does a great job upscaling SD content and gives a fantastic picture across the board.

The Optoma and Pani output higher brightness than the other two, 1600+ lumens which helps if you can not completly block out ambiemt light,

but IMO all these projectors should only be watched in close to complete darkness as they have been designed for.

I have a HD65 which is used with my PS3 and is fantastic. I've seen all the others in operation except the pani, and with HD content, they are all fantastic projector.

    HTH...
