Hi Martin - It states that Sigung Taky Kimura was Bruce's highest ranking student - but there is hardly even 2 pages of results with his name in google? What sort of validation does he have that he trained under Bruce?

    Beware the nitpickers are out!:D

Taky Kimura? Sounds like a cheesy submission to me.:D I apologize in advance. Ohh the shame!!!:o

Hey JOB, Sigung is his grade, not his name.

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1r5c4_bruce-lee-et-taky-kimura_shortfilms

Taky Kimura is one of Bruce Lee's instructors. Which means a whole lot of nothing if you understand Bruce Lee's philosophy.

    But anyway, there you go.

    Welcome to the board Martin.

    Peace

I think you need more practice with your googling machine:

Results 1 - 50 of about 10,900 for "taky kimura"
Results 1 - 50 of about 8,920 for "taky kimura" "bruce lee"

He's also very well known in the real world.

    Hi Martin

Good to see you boards, hope you keeping well. Glad you are still out there promoting and doing what you love. We train at Martins club a few times in the long distance past and found Martin to be a open, friendly and geninue teacher.

Martin sorry to see aleady some people nit picking and adding smart remarks, its just one of the barriers new people who are not mma have to go through on boards. But hang in there and it will ease off.

    Liam

Actually my googling is just fine - I thought Sigung was apart of his name, not rank. Hence the confusion :p

All's well! Just wanted to make sure he was legit. And Pearse, from what I gather JKD is just meant to be a way of thinking opposed to a style, right?

Excuse yourself - It was a perfectly honest question and I'd do the same for any name, MMA or not. I always pop names into google out of curiosity to see their background, style irrelevant. When it got only a few results based on my lacking of understanding of his name, I questioned it. I'm well within my rights to do so - so hold your MMA conspiracy for a minute.

    Hi Diofnep

Thank you for explaining your way of thinking and understanding of other people styles and training. My thoughts on this were very simple, Martin had just join the forum and had introduced himself, and instead of a welcoming, he had within two hours had to explain himself to you. If you feel this it's your right to question and check people, immediately they join boards, fair enough keep up the good work.

Who the fvck has never heard of Taky Kimura, he was bruce Lee's highest ranking students. I am sure that guy would want to roll with Royce Gracie if you are having a seminar with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭ryoishin

I think he writes articles in blackbelt.

If you would like to find out more about Taky Kimura go to his family website www.andykimura.com or www.bruceleefoundation.com
Bruce Lee's family love and respect him as a noble and great man and martial artist. He is a member of the Bruce Lee Foundation Board of Directors.

There are few articles about him on our website www.jkdireland.com

I was just saying hi to fellow martial artists and to extend a friendly invitation to the Royce Gracie seminar on the 28th of June.
Liam good to hear that you are still following your path!

Welcome Martin and I must say it's great to see Martial Arts legends like Taky Kimura and Royce Gracie coming to Ireland for Seminars. Well done, I look forward to hearing more from you.

Right time for some more time outs methinks.

dlofnep, you were overly aggressive in your bickering response to Liam, take some time off.

Liam, not everything is an boards.ie MMA conspiracy. It's getting old.

FTR, Martin's first post was pimping a seminar, which was deleted. I've spoken to him on this matter and it's now resolved.

    Hey Martin,

Ive heard that Royce seminars are more the self defence aspects of bjj?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 904 ✭✭✭David Jones

Hi Martin, I actually attended a Lamar Davis seminar Belfast when I was in UUJ. I was training Wing Chun with Ciaran Stephenson at the time and a little Thai with Frankie McConville. I havent heard about you guys for years. Welcome to boards.

Martin sorry to see aleady some people nit picking and adding smart remarks, its just one of the barriers new people who are not mma have to go through on boards. But hang in there and it will ease off.

Liam there is no MMA conspiracy. There just happens to be a lot of athletes on here who have woken up to or are waking up to realistic training methods when it comes to actual fighting which is the essence of "Martial" arts and hell since we are on the subject the essence of Bruce Lees philosophy "Discard what is useless" "A punch is a punch a kick is a kick" You can have all your funky low stances and block punch systems and completely unrealistic knife defences all you want and strange forms and you can claim lineage back to australopithecus for all I care, but people are entitled to believe all that is completely useless when training against a fully resisting opponent, just as you are entitled to believe it works, or that its too deadly to actually train with full resistance or some similar excuse.

There are no barriers to non mma people on here, but since it is a forum for discussion Im sure people are entitled to ask questions about posts on here. Im fully willing to answer any questions about what I teach, where and when I teach it and how it is taught regardless of how the question is phrased. If people come to nextgeneration and find its not for them and may even post that on the internet, I respect their right to do that and wish them well on their quest to find happiness in ninjitsu, silat, wado etc etc Realism afterall isnt for everyone.

So Martin once again welcome to boards, I firmly believe that without Bruce Lee and his philosophy of training methods we might not have come out of the dark ages and into the modern hybrid fighting style incoporating stand up, clinch work and ground fighting.

Pimping a seminar ???? are you joking .....

Maybe you need to get someone to check your mails before you send them.

Everyone posts seminars here, as they make this a better forum, is this a new policy you have brought in.

Sorry guys, I apologise and should have clarified who I was before inviting anyone to a seminar, I jumped ahead of myself.
I have been studying martial arts since 1976 and have black belts in several systems. I have been a student of Jeet Kune Do for the past 20 years and hold the rank of Full Instructor. I work as a social worker in N Ireland.
If you want to find out more go to our website and take a look at the articles section.

    Marto,

If you are hosting Royce Gracie, you have no need to make any introductions ...

    Martin,

As you can see there is a whole load of bickering on boards! However, just like Martial Arts, arguments on this forum are 'pressure tested' so please dont take offense (I know you haven't so far) if people ask things in a blunt fashion.

I hope the seminar goes well for you and all the guys that attend.

    Peace

    OMG!

Yes, yes it is. And it's actually in more adherence with the boards.ie policy of no advertising. Enjoy your time off.

Apparently Royce doesn't teach "sporting" BJJ when he does seminars, inasmuch as he'll never say "and you've got your sweep so that's 2 points", but I think the material is much the same. I'm just going on what others have told me, I've never been to one of his seminars and probably wouldn't go. Might try to get a photo with him though :D

Welcome Martin, hope both seminars go well for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭ryoishin

Yeah ive heard he does alot of bear hug defence, front choke defence and stuff like that.

    I might try and go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 346 ✭✭Martin25

    Hi April Rain
Yes thats me. I have been working with Colm Whooley ,Declan Breen and many people at the National Spinal Injuries Hospital for a few years. We have developed a programme which incorporates some of the principles of JKD into a self protection programme. At the same time recognising that a spinal injury places a person in a challenging position vis a vis self defence. We have discarded 90% of the normal JKD curriculum but about 10% has been found useful.
    Awareness raising has been vital.
Contact Colm Whooley at the hospital for more information.

A pimp is someone who lives off the earnings of a prostitute?

in this context, pimping refers to advertising and zealous promotion.

as most have already mentioned, welcome along.
