I want to try and buy DVDs off amazon.com and get them sent over here. I know that you cannot play Region 1 DVDs on most players over here, but does this apply to laptops also?

    Depends on the software.

Where can I avail of this software or is this the sort of thing that should not be discussed on boards?

I really want to get a copy of Nightwatch with the theatrical subs

Get the R2 2 disc version. It's the best one available and contains teh animated subtitles.

As for R1-R6 discs they can be played using VLC on your laptop and pretty much every DVD player has a hack available to make it multiregion.

I bought the 2 disc special edition boxset and they weren't on them :(

Yep VLCplayer/videolan will play any region. Possibly the best bit of software I've ever come across. So simple, so effective.

You get the Night Watch/Day Watch box set or the 2 disc version of Night Watch?

Oh. I see. It's the boxset. I'll take a look for the 2-disc boxset on amazon.

Could this have the subtitles? It's hard to tell as it just says "English Subtitles" on the product description

Huh didn't know making your PC multi-region was as easy as downloading VLC. Alwasy thought it was based on those annoying hardware chages (you have 1 left).

Thanks for the tip! Trying it out now and working fine. Woo!

According to a discussion topic I found on amazon, the one I'm looking at does indeed have the theatrical subtitles. I just hope it's right.

I'm pretty sure that's the one. The special features are the same as on my one which has the animated subtitles on disc 2. In fact a quick look at the special features listed has this, Night Watch Movie Theatrical Version Including Original Subtitles. So it's a pretty safe bet that's the version you want.

I know the one disc version which is going cheap these days does not have them.

Didn't even spot that part. I'm new to amazon.co.uk so on your shopping cart, is your subtotal how much you're going to pay or is P&P included after you make the purchase?

It's working out at £8 which is roughly 10euros. It's a pretty sweet price.

I think postage is either 1.24 or 1.79. I don't mind paying the postage on amazon as it's really fast. I had American Gangster on HD posted to me last Sunday and had it waiting for me Tuesday morning all for less than 11 euro.

Edit: Here it is for 10 euro postage included.

According to the play.com website only items priced in euros can be delivered to european countries, items in £ can only be delivered within the UK.

    Damnit.

Oh wait. Didn't see the european flag in the top right corner. Never mind.
