Just reading one of the local papers down here in Waterford, it seems they've hosting this event in the last week of September 2008 and if it does well again in 2009, might be worth having a mini-meet during the event.

    Further details on

    &

Cool. Hope Sept lives up to its reputation for fine quiet weather, 21-26th is pushing it a bit though.

Would be an amazing photo op.. To get up in one would be amazing chance to get some air shots... Least there is time to try get something organised..

It was held here for the last two years. Unfortunately they only go up twice a day, and neither time suited me with work.

Normally though, for an evening the start and end of the of the whole thing, they get all the balloons in a big circle, inflate them, but then keep them on the ground and set off the burners, lighting them up like giant light bulbs.

Oh yes, and they don't take members of the public up during the week, strictly competition. Or so they say at least.

I might be interested in heading back to this. I can drive if any of the Kerry lads want to split travel expenses etc. Go out early one morning and back that evening. It only takes about 2.5 hours to get to Waterford.

    Boards meet for sure!
I used to work nights the odd time a few years back and the sight of the balloons coming out of the sunrise will stay with me forever. It was truly fantastic.

Then green chartreuse in Downes after! Horayy!!

Hey, i haven't been around the Boards in a while, but i'm definitely interested in this one. I've had the date marked in my calendar for a while now. I know a few photographers from dungarvan are interested in coming up to see it too.

What i don't know is the timetable of events. Has anyone got any info on when and where the Balloons are lifting off from?

i headed down towards Carrick this morning but only managed to see the balloons way off in the distance as i hurried from a godalmighty traffic snarlup outside Clonmel. They were airborne a bit before 8am too I reckon i would have needed to be there before 7:30 really to get set up and be in place.

    oh well :(

anyone heading to the ploughing c/ships? in KK

    Hi Guys,
Hoping to get to Waterford for this evening, aiming for 5 - 5.30 pm, expecting they lift off some time around 6.00. Can anyone verify? Couldn't get onto the Pilots Page on website today or yesterday.

Is lift off at Peoples Park? and where are they landing? Any idea of times and where the best vantage point would be to get a few together in flight??

Thnaks for any advise in advance.

Fionn, they were taking off from down the road from you last night - Someplace in Piltown. Not sure how many took off in the end.

Keep an eye on the thread in the Waterford forum, folks, Trotter is updating as soon as he gets any news in!

I see where they will be in Lismore on Wednesday evening - hoping to head down there. Would imagine along the road between Lismore ad Cappaquin would be the best place??.............
