any help on this would be great.i saw an ad on gumtree the other day(gibson les paul standard premium plus going for 950 euros,2500 on thomann and the like)got intouch with the guy and he said that he and the guitar were in london,he said that the guitar was with moneybookers and that i give them my cc details and they send the guitar to me,if all is well i give them the word and they release the money to the seller. i googled moneybookers and they 'seemed' to be legit,i've never heard of them before and the guitar seems too good to be true.i will do a little more investigating on the whole thing like getting in touch with my cc company and the like but for now has anyone had any dealings with them or heard of them?

Seriously, a €2500 guitar for €950 ? Do you even need to post here to check if it's legit or not?

Sending large sums of money to untrusted people in other countries via online money transfer services is not a clever thing to do.

Moneybookers are certainly legitimate (I use them all the time for transferring money) but I have NEVER heard of them holding a guitar or anything other than money!

    I'd beware.

Run a mile. Or two. The fact that you had to post on here is reason enough not to throw 950 euro their direction.

i see what you all mean(seems too good to be true)but i was on to moneybookers and they said that if i was to go ahead with the sale,no money would be transferred to the seller until they had strict confirmation from the buyer(i also contacted my cc company and they told me the same thing, they also said that all transactions with moneybookers was insured to the full amount )money bookers also informed me that if the item arrived and it was not what i expected, the item would be shipped back without charge to me.i am certainly going to do a bit more checking around before i barrel into it,i am not going to just send off a grand on a whim.

One more thing to note is that the LP Standard Premium Plus is one of the, let's say, replicated guitars that are coming out of China. Buyer beware!

I'd say go for it! :p

thats the thing,i was on to my old guitar teacher and he said that a lot of knock off gibsons are doing the rounds at the moment(a guy in buyandsell is selling gibsons at the moment and thats the first thing he told me was that it WAS a knock off)anyway that teacher has told me that any guitar i want to buy,he will give it the once over.these things usually are a bit of a scam, but i like to do a bit of investigating before i walk away, you do hear of good deals(a mate of mine bought a usa strat for 350 euro recently, guy who sold it had'ent a clue what he was dealing with)

If you are going to buy it, it's worth getting the serial number first and giving Gibson in the US a ring. I spoke to them before purchasing my standard and they can confirm the year, colour and also which distributor it was shipped to. In my case this all corresponded to the sales recipt etc. and was a nice reassurance.

he said that he had all the documentation for it, so i asked if he could copy it and send it off to me first.i will ask for serial number and check with gibson thanks.
