Teeth Whitening & Crowns

I have a front tooth that is discolored (root on it is dead for years) and went to the dentist about it last week. She was saying that i need to get a crown on it (€800) but before that i should get my teeth whitened (as the crown will not whiten afterwards and i should have my teeth the colour i want before getting it)

The whitening that she does is a home kit €350 - and it takes about 10 days. Its seems expensive but i am willing to spend it if it means my teeth wont show up brown in photo's anymore.

My question is - are the home kits that the dentists gives you worth the money or should i be looking at getting lazer whitening done? Which option is better for your teeth and has the best long lastening results?

Also my front tooth is discoloring from the inside out - so if i do get a crown on it - will this stop the discoloration - or could the crown start discolouring from my tooth?

"Lazer" whitening doesn't involve any lasers, just a bright light that dries out your teeth giving an impressive change in a short space of time, but and it's a big BUT the colour usually rebounds a few shades after 10 days and there is a very high incedence of sensitivity.
The critical part of a home bleaching kit if the fit of the trays and the lenght of time they are worn. They can great results in some but not all cases. thats a very, very good price!

below is a case using an ,at home kit and further in office bleaching, i think you can very obviously see the crown in the lower left which hasn't changed colour ! wouldn't be great if it was in the front.

That was a very good result and not typical
