TV Show Of The Week #3: The Office (USA)

I think alot of people (including myself and basquille) thought this would be an absolute bloody disaster.

After the shaky almost scene-for-scene remake that was episode 1, this show took on a life of its own, and is hands down the funniest thing on the box today.

I hope the spin-off next year doesn't lead to the dilution of the main show, but I'm keeping an open mind. Its the characters that make this show, and if they cannot reproduce that chemistry or spark in the spin-off, it will probably bomb.

So post your thoughts on the Office USA. Can anyone even remember David Brent?

Favourite clips on youtube are welcome. If people haven't see this show before, lets show them what they're missing.

    Over to you...

I was thinking about this over lunch - this scene makes me laugh every time....
(Sorry about portuguese subs.. It was the only version I could find)

I only recently got into this show and over the past 2 weeks watched all 4 seasons!
Really enjoyed it! I enjoyed the UK version too but this was good fun. A nice distraction!

Initially I just saw episode one and, disgusted at a blatant rip off, didn't look at it again until I saw a few folks here praising it. Am I glad I did: I firmly believe this version is superior to the original show. Over four seasons it's deepened the characters far more than the UK version and this is a show that very strongly relies on caring about the people.

Everyone in the show contributes their own individual element and it's all knit together very effectively. The fact that some of the shows actors are also writing contributors is probably what helps make it work as they've got an investment in what happens on screen.

I also like how this show is able to be more serious at times, verging on drama rather than just a straight-out sitcom. It's led to some touching moments (e.g. Michael talking with Janet on the freight train carriage) amidst many many laugh-out-loud moments.

Funniest show on TV right now.

I've only gotten into it pretty recently but I absolutely love it. Can't say too much else because I still haven't seen a lot of it, but Carrell and Co. are fantastic and it's one of few shows recently that makes me really laugh out loud.

I didnt see much of the English and what I did see I didnt very much like it.

When I saw the pilot of the Office (US) I really did like it. As far as I can tell it took the same "route" as the English version ie the hole Pam/Jim thing but now it has a whole life of its own.

Michael can be way over the top even more so than Brent but I think the big thing is that you feel for Michael but just think Brent is a wanker.

Up until last year I would have rated this number 2 behind My Name Is Earl but Earl just its mojo and the office is number one

I love the office. Started watching it last year or so, whenever paramount started showing season 2 (we had season 1 on dvd).

It's class, far better (in my opinion) than the UK version..

    Also, love that clip ^

Great show, although season 4 suffered from being smack bang in the middle of the writers strike - momentum lost etc, (although the finale was brilliant).
Not sure how the spin off will work, too much dilution of the cast.

    Not the office but associated:
