Haha, I worked in a well known shop in Cork when I was 16. They didn't teach me how to set one up either and I had to teach myself.
They had no problem with me experimenting on repairs though, which in hindsight if it was my guitar and somebody was to try and charge me for after I would tell them to go f*ck themselves
