Pick them up with what? Aerial or Cable?

We don't have DTT in Ireland (excluding the trials). If you can pick up the analogue terrestrial channels from the UK -- maybe from the north or if you're on the east coast -- then you might have some chance.

and does someone need a tv licence if he only has a tv tuner and not an actual tv?

A tv licence is required for any equipment in the house that is capable of receiving tv signals.

    ok thanks!

and do you know if either this HVR 900 will be sufficient enough for me to watch analog channels with an indoor aerial in north dublin?

i saw on the market also the Gigabyte GT-U8000-RH , Hybride.

    any ideas about this?

    thanks

It'll pick up RTE1, RTE2, TV3 & TG4 with the aerial provided. In fact I'd even say it's better quality on those four channels than if I plugged an analog cable into it (and I'm in North Dublin).

It won't pick up BBC, ITV etc without the cable.

I read recently that TV tuners are excluded from this. I'll try and dig up a reference/link. Before you jump down my throat, I was surprised at this too.

    SERIOUSLY???????

i had the impression that the aerial provided is a digital one, and i ve been told by salesmen in DID electronics that my only chance is by bying an indoor analogue aerial...

can u pls help on this?

i used to work in maplin and any time i sold a tv tuner it would pop up on the screen saying "make sure the customer has a tv license" and you had to confirm before it would let you continue. of course i checked every time :D

but it's an english company so the law in ireland might be different

    Seriously! :)

I used to have it set up with a co-ax cable plugged in with NTL analogue when I lived on the Southside. The picture wasn't great, BBC2 was really bad (although that was the case on the normal telly as well) and there was no EPG.

Now I'm on the other side of the city. There's no cable where my PC is so I use the aerial. I can only get the 4 terrestrial channels but the picture quality is excellent and there is an EPG for each station (tells you what's on now & next).

There's no such thing as an analogue or digital aerial. An aerial will pick up either signal.

You will be able to receive the analogue channels (terrestrial), namely RTÉ 1, RTÉ 2, TV3 and TG4. If you have cable, you should be able to watch the basic (analogue) line-up instead, assuming that tuner will allow you to watch VHF channels as well as channels in the UHF band.

Ye, after the tv licence revamp lately, that was one of the questions, and they said it wasn't needed, at least for the time being till then see a money opportunity.
If your household, business or institution possesses a television or equipment capable of receiving a television signal, you are required by law to have a television licence.
You do not require a television licence to watch television on your computer or mobile phone.

Is there any option to fine tune the channel? If so, give it a try. It's usually something like a slider you can drag in two directions for fine tuning.

i ve tried it. no luck...

i also called the customer support and they suggested me to update the drivers. which i did and again no luck...

searching in forums about this problem, i understood that there are some people who dont have this problem and some others that do have it...

unfortunately i cannot find the solution though :(

Are you receiving the analogue or digital channels? If it's analogue it's important you set it to the right country (Ireland/UK or "PAL-I") otherwise you may not get any sound. I also recommend using DScaler 4 (http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/downloads.htm) for analogue TV.

Also, are you sure your PCs support USB 2.0?

and i am not connecting the card to any splitter but directly on the pc
