Right this is just a thread for me to put a good bit of info and comments into one thread rather than several small threads .

Topic 1: Danny Williams/Corruption in boxing
    Topic 2: Monshipour returns
Topic 3: has Brian Peters been lying to us ?
Topic 4: boxing begins on Tv3
Topic 5: Paul Appleby , real deal or overhyped prospect......we'll find out on June 6th

Topic1: First off lets get the negative out of the way and it's corruption within boxing .
Unsurprising it's boxing on the continent and German based Turkish promoter Ahmet Ohner , aswell as the officials on his cards are the culprits here .

Now Ohner is doing a fantastic job bringing in Cubans(Gamboa , Barthelemy , Solis , Hernandez) and matching them tough early , fastracking them to the top . So from this point of view he's very good for boxing .

However , first strange thing to happen on one of his shows , Yoan Paoblo Hernandez was taking on Wayne Braithwaite about a month ago . Winning the fight easily , Hernandez gets caught and put down . The referee helped him to his feet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFo6rSluwxg before initiating a count . Thankfully the right man still one as Braithwaite got his ko .
But this was only one incident , by one ref so there was nothing much to worry about from that . Until last Friday night, Danny Williams v Konstantin Airich .

Normally a referee will give two official warnings before taking points for low blows , Williams went low once and was warned , the second time he did it the referee took 2 points away(I thought that was only possible to do from purposeful headbutts).

Williams was then given too standing counts , despite no rules for standing counts being in the rules . Williams was given a count when he slipped . Williams hurt Airich at one point and started flailing away with both his fists , Williams not holding Airich or in a clinch was of course then surprised by the call of break so threw a punch or two before he realised what the ref said and backed off . The ref deducted a point , even though a break should never have been called as there was nothing to break .

There was a few stupid incidents where the referee either refused to send Williams to his corner to fix his binding or tried winding it around Williams' glove himself(which of course came back down) .

But the greatest atrocity was in the 6th round , after dropping Airich(for the second time in the fight) the bell went with 1 min 28 seconds still to go as Airich was all over the place . Watching footage back again it can be clearly seen that it is none other than the promoter Ahmet Ohner who went over to the bell and rang it
The rest between that round and the next lasted 1 min 30 seconds , but it wasn't enough for Airich to recover as Williams overcame all the handicaps against him to stop Airich as Ohner threw in the towel .
Ohner apparently was trying to get the win turned into a no decision aswell saying that Williams' binding had caught Airich in the eye and he couldn't continue from that.......

This isn't the first time Danny Williams has been screwed while fighting on the continent , he was robbed of a win against Oleg Platov several months ago in Switzerland(under a German promoter again ) when a bout was ruled a no decision on a Platov cut with seconds to go before the end of the 4th round . The cut came from an accidental headbutt so from that point of view a no decision was correct but in truth the cut was much worse in the 2nd(when Platov was on top) and the only reason it was stopped was because Williams was getting on top and looking like he'd stop Platov .

The significance of it being stopped before the 4th was finished is if a fight goes 4 completed rounds it goes to the scorecards and Williams who had dropped Platov in one round and dominated another was certain to win a decision if the fight was stopped after the 4th round was completed .

Topic 2: Anyway with that out of the way , the next topic is a much more positive one(unless you're Bernard Dunne) . Mayhar Monshipour is back !
The Iranian Frenchman , who fought in the 2006 fight of the year , losing his title in an epic 10 round war(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLGYnc2XJiE)
has come out of retirement and will presumely make his comeback at Super Bantamweight(where he was European and WBA champion) or just above at Featherweight .
Monshipour is one of the most exciting fighters ive ever seen and it's great to have him back for a bit longer .
If he hasn't lost too much from two years ago he will at least gain back a European title , but I'm not sure if he'll be able to go any further .
The fight with Sithchatchawal may have ruined him(it ruined Sithchatchawal anyway) so you can never tell what he'll have left . But in his prime he deals with Munroe , Dunne , Martinez or any of the pathetic European level Featherweights at the moment) .

Topic 3: Has Brian Peters been lying to us ?

No this isn't about Bernard Dunne and overmatched opponents, or infact any of Peters' fighters and overmatched opponents .
    http://www.boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=533508
Now what is so strange about that ? , well in recent times Brian Peters has claimed to bring us the first ever professional boxing show in Limerick and the first ever womens bout in Ireland . That fight there would seem to disprove both , now unless that bout wasn't sanctioned by the BUI(a real possibility I suppose) then Mr.Peters has been fooling us...........and not just with the likes of Prince Arron as opponents :p

Topic 4: Boxing begins on TV 3

TV 3 enter a new era on July 5th and try to replicate RTE's success with boxing on their own channel .
    http://www.boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=554429
Tommy Egan's card from the national basketball arena sees two Irish title fights , aswell as a couple of decent prospects getting a run out .

The headline Ciaran Healy v Jamie Moore for the Irish Light-Middleweight title is a mismatch to be honest . Healy won the title in an upset over Lee Murtagh and Moore is the #1 challenger for the European title and a top 15-20 in the World at Light-Middleweight . Healy recently dropped a decision to journeyman Pavel Lotah when he came in under prepared , and although he did get revenge in the rematch it gives you an idea of the difference in levels here . Moore has beaten Matthew Macklin , Sebastien Lujan , Michael Jones etc , he's on a differnet planet to Healy and will win easily(although excitingly) within 3/4 .

The other title fight should be a bit closer as Paul Hyland , often thought of as the best of the 3 brothers takes on Stuart McFadyen for the Irish Super-Bantamweight title . Paul is now the only one of the brothers who isn't an Irish champion . I know I've seen McFadyen several times on Sky but I'm having a real hard time trying to remember what he's like .
He's been stopped by Gavin Reid , but Reid does have a very good punch .
I'm really only going on instinct here but I suspect this will be a lot closer than the main bout but still a clear win for Hyland . Paul on points .

The undercard features 3 good prospects and the well liked John O'Brien .
I suspect John will be given an easy enough opponent , as he often isn't in great shape nowdays and anyone too decent and he'll have major problems .

The other 3 are Bill Walsh(Irish Welterweight champion) , Patrick Hyland(now the Irish Featherweight champion after stopping Paul Griffin) and Gary 'Spike' O'Sullivan .
No opponents have been named yet but it will be intresting the see the 3 in action all the same .

Should make for a good debut bill on TV 3 .

    Topic 5: Paul Appleby.......rising star ?

Paul Appleby takes his first significant step up in his career as he takes on John Simpson for the British Featherweight title on June 6th .
Simspson , who is a lot better than his record suggests will show us whether Appleby has what it takes to go on to World level , which many(including me) feel or whether he has been rushed too quickly and may not be the star many thought .

Appleby like any young 11 fight pro has his flaws , and although Simpson will expose some of those flaws I believe Appleby's power and aggression will get him the victory and take the first major step on the journey to becoming a World champion . If Appleby can beat Simspon then he has what it takes to beat anyone in Europe at the moment aswell , as ive said before above the division is pretty pitiful at the moment and a guy like Appleby , or Simpson should he win could certainly win the European belt and dominate the continent for a while .

Appleby by stoppage in around 7 or 8 , after it being very competitive early on .

Finally those of you who were willing to read to the end of this drivel are in for a treat . It's another Monshipour fight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W82ojB8kM7Q
    enjoy :D

For anyone who can't quite believe that a promoter would just walk over and ring the bell to end the round , here's a picture :
    corrupt.jpg

Seems Monshipour is not the only one making a comeback if boxrec is to be believed(okay I know not the most reliable)

Wayne McCullough obviously feels the Cayman Islands is the best place to stage a comeback :D

Promoter Ohner argues that he rang the bell to try to have the fight stopped and protect his own boxer:

You can watch the whole fight here:
    http://blip.tv/file/956404

I have to say it is an absolute shambles, and it has to be the most incompetant Referee I have ever seen. In the second round he gives Airich a standing count and then turns around and immediately deducts 2 points from Williams

That said Airich seems to punch like a mule and Williams probably should have been stoped in the third if the Ref hadn't kept breaking the action to give williams standing counts.

I understand Spanish and after the promoter rang the bell in the sixth, the ref realised it had been rang early and went over to ask the timekeeper 'what the f**k happened there?

I think a lot of the problems stemmed from the ref having no idea of English (or German) and not being able to communicate with either fighter or corner.

Have a look yourselves and see what you think.

Edit: they have deleted that one, try this one:

personally I think Danny got both a raw deal and a good deal in with the fight against Airich, he should/could have been stopped in the third but the ref kept breaking the action, and then he had his man going and they tried to rob him.

But then again, why would we expect anything different from a Turk operating in Spain under the auspices of the EBU?? Too many variables there for something not to be up!!

Also, the "holier than thou" attitude of the Brit media {Steve Dunce and Sirtanta ****s} has left a really ****ty taste too. Its like there was never an ounce of controversy in a British ring either. Dunce has really got a hang up over how the British boxing scene has been utterly dominated by its German counterpart for some time now.

Conveniently, he forgets incidents like Marvin Hagler hiding in a toilet from a NF mob after he beat Alan Minter, he forgets Darkie Smith invading the ring to try and save his son from a beating against Hatton, he forgets that Henry Cooper got robbed by a visiting Ali with the ripped glove, the riot the night McCreesh and Smith fought for the British Welter title, plus a whole lot more besides.

I don't mind horse**** like what happened in Spain being exposed for what it is, what I DO mind is that people should be a little more cogniscent of the fact that EVERY boxing scene has witnessed it at some point or another.

At the end of the day, what Brian Peters is up to in Ireland is in a way a lot worse than anything that Turk is up to in Spain/Germany. Ahmet Oner at least tries to make big fights, and fast. Brian Peters is trawling the country selling ****e.

You are absolutely right, it smacks of complete Bull, just pointing out what his argument was.
Most of the comments after the article allude to your point, the guy sounds like a complete crook TBH.
