OK, I've been looking at all the what gear threads, and all the new faces posting here, and at all the ads for all the new models in the photography mags that I buy, and all the positive reviews that Pentax/Samsung/Sony/Olympus and the rest get, and I'm wondering (the gadget freak in me is anyway) if they are making any headway against the might of Canon/Nikon.

So I thought it might be worthwhile to post a poll now before holiday season and maybe again after Christmas just to see what's going on in the Boards end of the market...

What brand of camera do you use? 204 votes

    Canon

    Nikon
    50% 102 votes
    Olympus

    Canon 450D and Fuji 9500.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,037 ✭✭✭quilmore

I have a canon p&s and a nikon DSLR, I had to click on both
I wish there were more granularity (like canon p&s / canon dslr / nikon p&s / nikon dslr / ...)

Canon DSLR, Canon DSLR and Olympus P&S.

I guess most of the Canon users have been busy since the last poll had a lot more Canon users.

Currently sitting a solid third in the poll :)

I did consider this when I was setting it up, but there is a max of 20 options, and I would have had to do the same for film........

BTW I seem to have forgotten to include Sigma, I'm not sure if anybody here shoots with a Sigma body but if you do my apologies, post a reply and we can adjust the figures later.

An old Fuji Finepix S602 here.

But moving onto bigger and (hopefully) better things soon, just have to be swayed between Canon & Nikon now.

Likewise, I've invested too much money in Canon gear at this stage to change anyway. I suspect that this would be a deciding factor for a lot of people as well.

there was a similar thread only a few months ago actually. most of us already knew that only an elite minority went for the nikon gear., :p

I love shooting Pentax for the simple reason that I enjoy seeing the confused expressions on other photographers faces when they see my exhibited prints.

I have an Olympus E-1, a lowly 5 meg by todays standards.
However, the 14-54 lens and it have given me great results. Very happy with it.

    Andy

    Nicely put!
There seems to be a bit of a mental block to believing that any thing but a Canon or Nikon could produce a decent photo around these parts. At least going by the tone of some posts...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭amcinroy

    Indeed Duffarama,

Many a time I've been stood in front of one of my prints and my visitor will turn and ask me the same old question "Nikon or Canon?".

How I wish, just once, that they would turn to me and ask me the fundamental question "cheese and pickle or ham and coleslaw?"

    :o
