Rambo First Blood and the old style actioner

I watched it the other night for the 60th time but for the first time in a while. I noticed on the credits that there was only one woman in the entire film (woman on street, who did not even talk or scream) and there was only about a half-dozen to a dozen working on the set. I am a big fan of the old style action film and I feel that they are being wiped out due to trying to get all types to see the film and not appease the key demographic. I dont mind women in films but including a touch feely element to some films ruins them in my opinion.
So is the old action film dead?
I think it is becoming that way but thankfully there is original films from Asia to appease my tastes.

I hate it when there is mushy feely bits in movies. I was watching Die Hard 4.0 last night and the bits I hated in the movie was when McLain started saying **** like "I don't wanna be me". It completely ruins the athmosphere.

The "love interest" in action movies is one that always bugs me.

Its not like were really looking for anything massive in the way of character development for the most of them is it?

For me though the reason were losing these movies is because the world has went completely PC mad, leading to no more just plain old goodies and baddies...everything needs and explanation in order to justify it and not offend anyone.

Also the sense of humour has gone, films like Rambo and Commando etc had a sense of humour all of their own...nowadays the closest we get is slapstick and some sort of "post-modern" piss take humour.

Never much cared for the Rambo films but to me the perfect action move was Total Recall.

Really violent... great action scenes and a fantastic proper science fiction plot as well.

Also it had a romance sub plot that actually worked and made the film better for it.

I love the part in First Blood Part 2 where Rambo is telling the girl how she can come to America and you think "that's it, film ruined" before watching as she gets blown away in a torrent of gunfire.

It will come full circle again. Its only a matter of time.
The old style action film will return.
The garbage that is masquerading itself as action/blockbusters over the last few years is amazing.
Every year films seen to become more and more dumbed down, cliched and soulless.
Predator was on again last night ,now that is what I call a good action film

+1 what a movie! It was hilarious aswell, the bit when he kills Sharon Stone and his girlfriend climbs from under her corpse "you were married to her?......what a bitch!"
    deadly :D

look up any movies made by the WWE. They are real throw backs to the golden age of action movies. The Marine is excellent, complete with cheesy dailogue, over the top stunts, women only in bikinis and a protagonist that is made out of steel. The Condemned is also pretty good, but I felt it tried to take itself too seriously.

Ah yes, vintage Arnie flicks - I have em all! :)

Another of my favorites though would be The Running Man.. cheesy one liners (including the best response to his signature "I'll be back!" line :D), great story and cast and some great action sequences. Unfortunately (much like Eddie Murphy actually) anything made in more recent times was rubbish (with the possible exception of The Sixth Day which wasn't too bad)

That's right... 6th day was sort of unfairly overlooked. It actually had a very similar feel to Total Recall.

    I loved RePet and SimPals...

    I might be back...

Arnie is the king of the old style Sci-Fi actioner and they dont make films like that anymore. Stallone did ok in Demolition man and to a lesser extent Judge Dred.
    Classic lines by Arnie
After shooting Sharon Stone in TR-"Consider this a divorce"
"Killian, Ill be back" Killian "Only in a rerun"
