Was wondering is there any distinct difference in these processor chips. You'd pick up a decent spec laptop for around €5-600 with a T5500 in it and 2 Gb ram but the T8100 is a good bit dearer !

Question is am I saving much by going for the higher processor ?

The T8100 is a higher spec chip... it falls under the Penryn range (better power consumption, cooler, efficiency improvements etc), and aside from that, its basic specs are higher (higher CPU speed, faster FSB, bigger L2 cache).

Its undoubtably a 'better' processor, but whether you need or will even notice the difference depends on what kind of user you are. If you're doing light web-browsing, you're not going to care much tbh. But if you're the kind of user who's doing a lot of video transcoding or other intensive stuff, a better processor is always a good thing.

Its just a case of balancing your needs with your budget tbh.

    Well explained :)
I'd be only web browsing and playing some games so maybe it wouldnt benefit me going for the higher spec chip...save a few yo yo's too

    Cheers.
