Are you exercising? Lack of exercise could be the reason why. Also if you sleep after midnight it's not as good for you as before that.

Things that improve your sleep are diet, exercise and the physical bed. If you tackle these three issues, you shouldn't feel as bad.

Unless you're talking about the 10 mins where it's a struggle to get out of bed, i suffer from that too :D

about your alcohol and coffee consumption?

Yes for me this is an early symptom of depression. Could be any number of things for you though. Have you been to your GP to get blood tests and all the rest?

How long has it been going on? If not too long, maybe you've a slight virus or you're run-down? A virus has been going around for a while now, one of the main symptoms of which is indescribable exhaustion. I had it at the end of April and felt so bad I took antibiotics for it. Then about two weeks later it came back in a milder form but the exhaustion was still absolutely overwhelming - I too was going to bed early and getting eight or nine hours' sleep (normally more than enough for me).
Obviously I can't make a diagnosis though, so if you feel any of the above is applicable to you maybe have a word with your doctor. Or get a tonic/multi-vitamin (e.g. Vivioptal).

Do you suffer from Hayfever by any chance? I do, and I always find I'm very groggy in the mornings around this time of year when the pollen season kicks in. Usually, when I wake even after a good nights sleep I still feel sleepy and my head feels congested as if I have a cold coming on. From my perspective I find it easier to get out of bed in the depths of winter than the height of summer and I put this down to the affects of hayfever as fatigue and tiredness can be a symptom also.

Go to your doctor and have bloods taken. Could well be a medical problem that can be easily sorted and you're best off finding out. Had a similar problem myself and it turned out to be a severe defiency in vitamin B12 I have that's easily treatable. I couldn't understand why I'd make it up the stairs to bed, then pass out without having the energy to get undressed. If in doubt go see your doctor!

    same here.

Go to your doctor and get it checked out. You probably need blood tests and the like done.

I still feel like that at the moment but for me its down to the tablets that im on.

Go see your doctor....s/he will be the best person to make a disgnosis!

Ive started taking pharmaton in the monring and it gives me a slow releasr of energy to get me through the day.....maybe try them too

What is your bed like, seriously a good bed is a worth while investment.
Have a look at getting a new mattress and make sure your room is not to bright or to stuffy.

Sh1te! I must have deleted part of the post. Sorry! I was going to say it is probably depression. What I wanted to say has been said already so maybe I should have said no more and kept my air of mystique.

Yeah I'd agree that this is definetely one possibility. Happened me last year when I was working pretty hard - I was getting 12+ hours sleep a night and still felt exhausted. Went for blood tests, was told to exercise more. I kinda just shook it off as work wound up. Took a holiday.

    Hi,

I went for a blood test about 6 mths ago and every test showed I was healthy!
I get plenty of exercise in - gym, football a few times a week.
And I eat well - plenty of fruit, very little junk food, and plenty of water.

    Any suggestions?

That pretty much leaves the bed to check. as pointed out earlier, a good matress is worth it's weight in gold

Are you stressed out about anything in particular?

You probably would have mentioned it but do you smoke dope?

get lighter curtains too, black out blinds/curtains are only for people who work night shifts

i used to drag myself out of bed after 12 every day when on summer hols from school, but when i moved to a brighter room (oppisite side of house) i was wide awake from 7am during the summer, i wasnt capable of a lie in, even after a night on the beer

Surely black out blinds would help the Op sink into a deeper sleep, get more rest and ultimatley feel less tired?

i'm only suggesting this, no expert here but...

obviously black out blinds will only help you sleep when its not dark outside, so they are no help durning the night,

i think that a little natural light in the room in the morning for at least half an hour before your alarm will make you feel more awake when it does ring

I've found that when I'm in a poorly ventilated bedroom, I can wake up with a bit of a headache or feeling more tired than I should, regardless of sleep.

If you can leave the door open or a window ajar, it could well help. It worked for me:)

Plus One. In winter this might be diagnosed by your doctor as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) the common treatment being good ol fashioned daylight, with a preference to a dimmer set to slowly brighten using a dayglow bulb as you are waking up.

    Hi,
The curtains in my room are fairly light so the room is getting some sunlight.
I just realised - once I got out of my slumber - that I wake up feeling very thirsty most mornings.
Maybe this is a factor in feeling so tired?? No idea why so thirsty in mornings. I don't have alcohol the night before and I drink plenty of water.
    Any ideas?

Could be diabetes - you should really get more blood tests done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭K09

I got about 4/5 blood tests done about 9mths ago and nothing came up.

Could be any number of other serious problems that could mess you up.
    Doctor -> Tests -> answer.
Tests 9 months ago don't mean theres nothing wrong now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭K09

but the thing is I felt the same 9mths ago!
That's why I went for tests.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

...........then I have only one other option:

so when you wake up in the morning how tired are we talking about on a scale of 1-10? And how long does it take you to feel awake? 1, 2 hours?

Do you also have this issue on the weekends, ie. when you can sleep in?

try drinking something other than water (boring) or coffee (repetitive) in the morning. Experiment with juice or milk. Or Powerthirst.

Hi I suffered from this quite recently too until I had a few late nights one week and ended up only getting 5-6 hours sleep a night and woke up with more energy after that. I read somewhere before that its 6 hours a night you should get not 8 anymore.

Also I have the blackout curtains and I find it very hard to get up in the morning when I have them fully closed cause they really do completely block out any light so now I leave them slightly open so the room is still dark at night but lets the light in in the mornings. Hope this helps.
