New Munster Coach?

Sorry if this has been discussed on another thread, but I'm just wondering what people think about who'll take over from DK at Munster?

I've a feeling that Bradley might be in the frame given the relative silence about the job with the International tour going ahead now. Talk of him at Munster would distract from the tour.

Another possibility in my book would be Mick Galwey. Possibly not enough experience there though.

Shock horror, could Mr. Eddie O'Sullivan be in the running?

    Lots to consider :)

Bradley. Mainly so we can get shot of him in Connacht:D He's not bad, but he's had his shot here. Really though, I don't think he's even near the standard for Munster.

Don't think so, they won't bring in an outsider with so little experience. I reckon it'll be Tony McGahon (I think that's his name), the current Munster defence coach. The players like him and he knows how things work in Munster.

Bradley is a shoe-in for the job I'd say. He's be given the temporary job of the Irish team and if I'm not mistaken he's married to Philip Browne's daughter. Nepotism is still rife in the IRFU.

He is married to Noel Murphy's daughter.

Tony McGahan, that's if Kidney doesn't take him to the Irish Job.

Ewen McKenzie perhaps. We'll see how his team do in the S14 final. If they win there'll be speculation.

Considering Kidney is gone to the Irish job I would like to see someone new to the system come in and take the Munster job. I don't know much about McGahan so he may well be the best choice, but I dislike the sense that everyone is just being rearranged with few new voices in the system.

But in the case of Munster as things are going so well some continuity may not be a bad thing at all.

Looking around at most of the other names that have been touted I wouldn't mind seeing McGahan get the job, he has done a great job combining backs and defensive coach duties so far.

Yeah, its definitely less of an issue with the Munster set-up. I just would have liked to have seen someone new come in to one of the top positions but there is no need to wreck something good that is already in place I guess.

Probably Bradley. I'd like to see Galwey involved too. Keep EOS away. :D

When Eddie's successor was being appointed, I was thinking a fresh unconnected face would be good, too. However, there's a winning formula at Munster. It works, so I'd be inclined to not change too much in one go. Almost the complete opposite of the national team. McGahan is already in the setup, has proved himself as a defence coach (IMO anyway) and wouldn't be too big a shock to the system.

I can't see the blazers getting away with appointing Bradley given they're under much scrutiny at the moment. Why should Bradley get the job? That'll be printed a lot if he were to get the job. I'm probably being idealistic in that thinking though!

If Bradley luck boxes his way to a win on the Summer tour he will get it.

christ I hope the AB's stuff us.

The Munster coach is going to be appointed by Munster Rugby as opposed to by the IRFU though, which limits Bradley's chances somewhat.

Does Michael Cheika deserve a promotion to the Munster Job?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,889 ✭✭✭cgarvey

Maybe, maybe not. Don't think anyone can judge properly just yet. He's an absolute gentleman, is very realistic and honest, and certainly knows his rugby. However, 1 Magners League title does not an international coach make.

Haha, was googling for the current bookies odds, I'd say with the wealth of experience behind it, this one is a shoe in:

Not sure the traditionalists would agree though

Whatever the implications for Munster getting Bradley from a win I'd still like to see Ireland beat the ABs.

WRT the Munster job, I think Tony McGahan should get the nod.

BTW, while Munster do the head hunting the IRFU must sign off on the appointment - hopefully it will be a rubber stamp job rather than an actual approval.
