Saw that and went to the branch at carrickmines to get a bike for my daughter. Shes after a Raleigh Krush 24", I had priced it in Joe Dalys bike shop in Dundrum earlier this week at €209, "Halfrauds" had them in the sale all right reduced by 50% from €400 to €200!!

Hate that bullsh1t, even though Joe Daly is a little bit more expensive we are going to buy from him.

Moral of the story is check the prices on line etc before, just to see how much of a sale bargin you are really getting!

That seems to happen a lot with UK retailers operating in Ireland.

Yeah they had half price roof boxes a while back when I was looking for one. Such a load of bull. I reckon they are always half price and they're RRP is crazy. A permanent sale. If you looking for a roofbox, try P.R. Reilly which are online also team.ie. Great deals on roofboxes at least.

Funny how they dropped a massive €150 (£120 odd Sterling) off a Garmin 760 GPS...
I picked two up from Komplett for less and they only knocked €11.50 off the price this week.

    Sale? my a$$.

Got to agree, complete laod of crap. Bought an Apollo 26" bike for €130 or there abouts last year and they have it advertied in todays star at 50% off, was €250, now costing €124.99.

I thought that the prices off 50% off had to show that the product was the full price for some time before the reduction. Obviously not as I have often seen that bike going by in blanchardstown halfords and was never priced at 250.

They have had huge issues in the UK (focused on the 'sofa shop' discounts) - uproar caused by people complaining that the 'sales' were bogus. The company in question argued that the 'retail' price was actually on the store managers official headoffice pricing paperwork when he gets the product in...but he doesn;t have to show that price even from day one of the product being available to purchase.....so the only people to see the product sold for the 'real' price are the store managers! ......

The products come in for a month (legal requirement) and are at the higher price and whether it be on the shop floor in a noticeable position or not, its on the system and available for sale. Then after the 1 month period the product is usually moved to a better location and has the big "SALE" signs. I often complained about it but never got anywhere.

The SatNavs aren't as bad as they sem to go down in all shops at the same time. If you see a headunit that has just come in, wait for a month and i can guarentee it will have gone down in price, again due to this law......

It's stupid, but people are drawn in by the word "SALE"

On the telly tho', its an "up to 50% sale"

so it could be 5% off on this roofbox worth 300 niker and 50% off on this sponge worth Sweet FA!

Well that's often, indeed usually, the case with all retailers, isn't it...?

A couple of years ago we were looking at car seats. We had our eye on a particular model and had selected the retailer.

We saw an ad for Halford in Mahon Point who had them for half price. Yeah right - even at "half price" they were around 20 - 30 % dearer than we were paying. I said it to the Manager who grimaced and muttered that those were the prices being sent over from HQ. I told him that their own ads at the time in the UK had the seats at the "normal" Irish price and he said it was happening all the time..

The moral really is that just like any other sale - look around and price the items everywhere. Halfords seem to work on the superstore principle - you know they'll have what you want and ignore the price.
