Following on from my Location Location Location post a few weeks ago, I spent 2 hours in a Michelin Star restaurant in Dublin today, I wanted to capture the atmohsphere of the kitchen and the preciceness of the food they were creating, have uploaded a Appetiser as it were and will hope to have more up soon!

great shots, really like one and two. The other two let the set down a bit.

All a great except the 4th one.
There is foreground interference and, well, there's not a lot to focus on, apart from the chef's terrible expression.

/edit - with the fist one, I'm caught between focusing on the pan and focusing on the food. Clearly, attention should be on the food.
The 5th would be great for the restaurant - the fingers show close attention to detail.

I agree dont really know why I put that one up or the one before it tbh, was thinking about taking it down but someone responded and mentioned them, shot selection is not my strong point!

but someone responded and mentioned them

They mentioned it because there is a person in it. When restaurants pay for photos, they want them for the atmosphere and food, they don't want the chefs in them.

shot selection is not my strong point!
Of 600 shots I take, I use maybe 20. You need to learn to be ruthless. It's kinda like slaying your own children, but as long as the strongest survive, all is good...

No what i meant was Borderfox responded to my post as I was contemplating taking the second two down so if i removed it then it would have made nonsense of his post!

Some more of my flickr, would appreciate your comments October if you have the time!

1 and the extra one you posted are fantastic. Really great. Think you need to figure out, are these for your own use or do they want them? If so, you have two absolutely amazing photos to use there.

The first two and the last are very good, they show attention to detail and focus on the food itself, and are a good set. #3 nearly works for me, but it's a bit cluttered. If it were a single plate it might work. You could have a go with the clone tool! :)

The one with the chef is just too static. I think kitchen shots with people in them can work, though I think they have to try to convey a sense that kitchens (well the ones I've been in anyway) are busy places, so catching him when he's tossing a saute pan or something with a bit of blur would convey motion and dynamism. As it is, he look like he's trying to remember what else was on his shopping list

You have some very nice shots there. What was the lighting setup or was it natural light ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭Dodgykeeper

There was no natural light, brought two flash guns be didnt need them as the flurescent lights and halogen service lights were adaquate!
