I introduced myself to one but alas he was not Ken, 1 other guy was probs too old to be Ken and he used a Nikon, 3rd guy never got close to him...

While I feel this 2nd set is better then my 1st set from a month ago I also know alot more and realise how far from the very high standards of our resident Sports photographers they are... City Exile, Ken Sutton and Paul Walsh's.
I have studied their photos a lot and I realise just how far they have come and what skill they have in their profession.
I could also have done with a hand with some advice, today I took most of these in M rather than P......

    I used the 1.4 extender with my 70-200 f/4 today.....light wasn't great.

Some very good shots there, even with the poor light, as you say.

I really like the first image.

You're just saying that 'cos I hero worshipped you earlier in the thread. :p:D

They're not very sharp and there's a bit of motion blur there. A tighter crop would be an advantage too.
Mainly however, from an editorial point of view, there is no story.
Was there a celebration at all?

Light was very poor, I used a tripod so that was about as sharp as I could get...
I know people go for the "rules" of tight crop but I am not a fan of them, these are tighter than what I'd like...
I have other pics including some celebrations...
My main aim was to see if there was progress from my 1st set which was a month ago...
Any comment on that Octoberfall...be appreciated.

Maybe an extra bit of sharpening in PP would work, but otherwise they seem fine, considering the conditions.

In No1 - wickets seem sharp and in focus, rather than the bowler.
    #2 - players legs/wickets are in focus
    #3 - again the wickets

Did you have the focus set on the wickets, by chance??

I think the crop seems fine.

    Just my view though.

Thought it was on the player but already chompin' at the bit for my next shoot! That's a good sign I guess!!
I def need to get some funds together for the 70-200 f2.8 glass though I think, If I had've had that yesterday would the images being any clearer?
Also not an expert on PP/sharpening..is PP the app that came on the Canon CD called Zoombrowser?
I don't know how to use unsharp mask at all, I use the sharpness tab and sort of religously set it to 60. :o

Always a good sign when you look forward to the next time.

Without seeing the focus point (some software can show you the point of focus), I assume that the wicket is where your focus is. It looks sharp in all images. But, that's just my assumption.

I don't use the Canon software, so can't speak for how you do your PP (Post Processing). I use Lightroom.

The 70-200mm f/2.8 should give you must faster shutter speeds, and so less blur. Maybe you should borrow or rent one for the next game and see how they compare?

You were correct, just went back and the ones you said the wickets appeared to have the focus points were!

    Cheers for all the help!

Ok I was dying to try some more shots, so headed down to the Park and what luck their were some lads praccying Cricket!!
Only took a handful of shots as I had my dog with me...
Weather conditions far better and I had no tripod this time so I think these are an improvement on yesterdays.....

    C & C compared more than welcome.

Those do look sharper and better. Best advice - buy a monopod.

Otherwise, get lower to the ground. You almost seem to be looking down on these guys. Looking up gives a more powerful image.

The last guys defensive stroke is poor but a good shot :p Pity the lighting wasn't much better around them.

I was way above them, I was sitting on the monument steps!!
I was more so trying to improve the sharpness end, must read up on unmasking too, not used or understand it.
Tell you what those lads could hit the ball, he hit many potential 4's :D
