    im having issues with my laptop (specs below) producing too much heat. when playing games, the gpu temperature goes as high as 105c and the cpu upto 65c.... this seems much too high for comfort. these temperatures are attained under the folloeing conditions;

    battery removed to increase airflow
back of laptop proped up from table on deck of cards
    not overclocked
    room temperature normal 21c

will someone tell me whats up with this please?...is it in fact too high?...is there anyway to reduce the temps? (ive already underclocked....dont make any difference really)

    How old is the laptop
It could be that the fans and heatsink are covered in dust. Dismantling the laptop and cleaning them could help.
Are the laptop fans on the full time at full speed and are they noisy.

GPU temperature seems pretty high alright. Especially since the 8400m isnt exactly a monster of a card. I had a M1330 at one stage but can't recall what temps i was seeing. I don't believe they ever went past the low/mid 70s..

Are you using desktop drivers or anything like that? What program are you using to monitor temps?

dust aint a problem. laptop s only like a month old. its always been on a clean desk the whole time. i have the latest driver from the dell website. and im using rivatuner to monitor temperatures

no idea whats goin on with these temps. and its not that that the fan speed isnt going up either. fan revs up to 100% at that temperature. the core speed, core temp and fan speed coincide.

A quick google suggests other people are getting GPU temps of 105C or thereabouts also. 105 seems to be the temp at which the GPU downclocks.

I would probably double-check it somewhere that you'll find a lot of M1330 owners such as here. Or Dell themselves obviously, if you are genuinely worried that there's a problem.

kewl, thanks a mil for that. puts me at a bit of ease. was about to take a screw driver to the back of it n see if i could take off a backplate or plastic cover or summit to improve airflow.

if other ppl r gettin that too then, no worries.

(im jus used to my pc havin cpu of 45c and gpu at 65c)...im a lappy noob!

    2 questions...

What temperature monitoring program are you using? some can read higher than others.

Honestly, are you sure it's reading Celsius? I have an M1530, which is sort of similar. It runs between 40-50c...which is arounf 100-115-odd farenheit, or thereabouts.

Which is about where your system is at. This would make me think it's reading in Farenheit alright.

    heya Dartz

im using rivatuner to monitor graphics card, and core temp to measure cpu.

rest assured its definatly in celsius, and that the tjunction is correct (r...this stuff is well embedded in my head from my overclocking with my pc)

the laptop gets just above the threshhold of "warm" and becomes hot. i rekon it could be 110c at the core as the majority of the aluminium body of the laptop gets pretty damn warm.

it still surprises me that it can get that hot tho n still work. (thinkin i shoulda went for a 1530 now.....dammit) ah well, this yoke is little n cool....spose its not really a "gaming" lappy tho.

110 is dangerously hot and if that's 'normal' then it's a serious design fault. My Go8600 peaks at about 70, my old 7400 was roasting at 90-95c under load which in itself was too high...and crashed after an hour at those continuous temps.

i know it seems ridiculously high right!, its as stable as can be though, not a single crash outta her. my friend just played cod4 thru the single player there in one sitting. it was fine, it didnt get laggy eith higher temps, nothin.

if anything, its doing longterm damage in the sense that its reducing the lifespan of the graphics card.

i dunno, i might send an email to dell n ask

It's not lagging itself at that temperature, or downclocking?

100C is insane. It should be dying at that temperature. My XPS gets noticeably warmer while gaming... it dumps watts of heat through the palmsrest....and chassis.

But it's never gotten that hot in the processor. Noticeably warm... but not hot.

There is something wrong there... and if your processor isn't burning up, or smoking at that temperature, then chances are something that's sensing it has failed.

them temps will kill your card in no time.

my 7950gtx gets to about 70/80degrees running games like bioshock.

it will shut down if it gets too hot.

    100degrees is wayyyyyyyyy to hot.

dell are not renowed for good cooling, they downgraded the default clocks of the 7950gtx probably because they could not offer adequate cooling.

a 1 month old laptop like yours running that hot.

    ring up dell i say.

they will get back to you with bs like its not meant for games....
