my brother's going to singapore next week, I'm going to ask him to get me the black nokia N82. There shouldn't be any compatibility issues using it in Ireland (on meteor currently) should there?

Make sure phone is not connected to an operator.
Its GSM frequencies are 850 900 1800 & 1900 MHz so it'll work in EU

Phones purchaseed in Singapore do in my experience work fine at home, over the counter phones are not network locked so that shouldn't be an issue.
Do watch out for the following:
    • Shops will quote you a very good price on model x knowing that you are shop hopping looking for the best price. When you find the best price & return to the shop you are told they have no stock & are offered an expensive alternative. Check they got stock!
    • After you negotiate a price they add 7% GST (VAT on top, be aware of this during negotiations.
    • I would avoid buying a phone in Lucky Plaza or Sim LIM.
    • You probably won't get an international warranty so buyer beware.
