hi, just wondering how much notice is required to end your employment if you are still within a probation period (of 6 months duration) and have not signed any contract? Any help appreciated. Thanks

As as i know you dont have to give any....Thats what my employer told me last week anyway!

You dont have to give them any notice and they dont have to give you any if they want to sack you

Legally I think is 0, but it's generally good practice to give a week.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm nearing the end of the probation period and fully intend to give one week notice. However I am been told I need to work two! Gonna try to sort this out today.

I really don't think there's anything they can do if you work one.

I was a retail manager though, not a solicitor :)

If you have no contract its good practise to give the same notice as your pay period. However if your pay period is monthly screw that. Tell them you will work a week - they have no hold.

Thanks for the help. Just sorted it out, will now be just working for one week rather than two before leaving.
