Would really recommend going to the Opera if you can at all. It's like something from times gone by with old ladies in furs carrying dogs. You can get tickets from touts outside at inexpensive prices. I got a great deal for one of the balconies.

I'm a big fan of the film "Before Sunrise" so had a little adventure for myself trying to find the "Friedhof der Namenlosen" as featured in it. Was worth it. Ended up being beside a remote industrial estate that was actually kind of cool in a freaky way in its own right.

Make sure you have some Sachertorte, it's yum! Walk around all the little Gasses and lovely cobbled streets. I really enjoyed the Ferris wheel too in spite of being so touristy.

Vienna has the most amazing Museum quarter I've seen and houses some beautiful pieces. Klimt being my personal favourite!

Explore, walk, explore. It's truly a beautiful city.

Yeah, definitely watch Before Sunrise before you go. I haven't been to that graveyard, but I think I've been everywhere else. Last time I went, I actually looked up all the locations (the record shop etc....). I really love that film! As for the opera, if you don't mind standing, pay €2 for the standing places. I love opera, but if you're not really into it, it might be better to do that, you get the experience, but if you don't get caught up in it, you don't have to stay the 3 hours.

I know, it's still in my top ten. Half looked for that record shop and think I saw it from the tram but didn't get to check it out.
Did you use the listening booth?
    God we're geeks!! :D:D

No, you can't be as bad as me. I joined this group and they have all these files, dissertations, essays, music, photos to do with the film. So they have a script with all the locations, so basically I just copied the parts that mentioned the locations. When I went though, they still hadn't identified all of them...

Where can you get these tickets? Sounds good - I really would just like to go in for a look and stay until an interval. I know it's a bit of a waste but I wouln't really be a huge opera fan, I just want to get a feel for it! :o

Just turn up at the opera few hours in advance and you can get them there. I wasn't quite that organised but got a booth for a song anyway. Was there last winter and saw Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen. Amazing!!

An hour before should be fine. Go around the left hand side of the opera house (looking from the front) and there's a door where people go in to get those tickets. Shouldn't be too difficult to find. It's the same for ballet.

There are no shows in July and August though.
