Would love to get my foot in the door of the recruitment industry, so would like to apply for a recruitment administrator role. Anyone here one? What's it like?

It depends a lot on the company you get into, the way their recruitment department works and how much opportunity you have to do stuff outside the normal remit of the job.

A recruitment admin will spend a lot of their time scheduling interviews, checking references and other not-so-interesting stuff. But there's a chance you'll get to contribute to other stuff in the department: interviewing, sourcing, liaising with managers/HR and other projects.

Do you have any kind of HR training? You might find it difficult without (though not impossible - I did it). At the moment there's a lot of HR graduates about, but not many HR jobs so they're taking the 'next best thing' which is recruitment.

Recruitment agencies often look for people with no experience they can train up, but you will probably be expected to do a certain amount of Business Development (cold calling) as part of your job. Depends if you're into sales or not!

    Good luck :)

Here is a pretty comprehensive list.

If you're ambitious and you see the admin role as getting the step up to being a consultant - go for it! You can often guage at the itnerview if the company is willing to progress you after some time
