I bought vista ultimate 32 bit and tried to install it on a new hard disk that had xp pro previously on it, I reformatted the drive in the vista setup and strated a clean installation, it hung around 90% through, after a reboot I tried again, same tihing, once more i retried and chose to repair the installation, always at 90 percent, I removed all usb devices including keyboard and mouse, (after I inputted the serial number and other requested info) and still the same, I have spotmau powersuite tools on dvd and I used this to delete the partition and start again, still the same deal, I've noticed when I go the powersuite software lists all partiitons and directories I there is an 8mb partition and a 200mb partition I cannot remove, my pc is acutom build and only had xp pro before this, right now I am looking for a decent disk management software tool that will delete and format partitions effectively, preferably on cd or dvd, any idea.

    Cheers

    J

calex71 could be onto something tho. If it's a custom PC there should be no partitions you can't remove. What kind of hard drive have you? You could download the diagnostic tools for it and write zeros across the drive wiping ALL partitions and testing the whole drive at the same time.

Cheers, I have not tried the hirens boot cd, I will get hold of that this evening, yeah its stranger about the hard disks, all are sata and I got them brand new from it direct, I did not have to load a custom driver to load xp onto the system, I will let you know what happens this evening, I recall a while ago on another forum somebody mentioned that vista messes around with the bios itself for drm or security reasons, I only installed it to become more familiar with it, I think performance wise its pretty bad so far compared to xp.

Tried the hirens boot cd and its defenitely a piece of software I will keeping, it had no problem doing its job, vista on the other hand still freezes on installation, its probably an incompatability issue between vista and the motherboard itself, I will reinstall xp pro on my main drive and vista will never darken my pc';s shores again, the more I work with vista the more I want to
    sue microsoft :)

Finally I've got the blinking thing working, apparantly the asus motherboards advanced chipset features are not currently supported by vista, I had to go into my bios and load all setup defaults and bingo, its working now, no overclocking then for me I am afraid lol, at least its working, its not as responsive as xp but I suppose we were all giving out about xp when it replaced windows 2000, still if this is the best ms can come up with considering how slick Mac osx .. well hmmmm., I have a macbook pro and its a very fast piece of kit and its responsive as hell compared to vista. what my next step? probably bin the pc and get a mac pro tower and dual boot vista and osx lol, I will never be satisfied.
