Hi, I'm thinking of getting a ps3 but live in an area where broadband is unavailable. Obviously I won't be able to play online, but will it be a major problem not being able to download patches and updates? Is anyone else in the same boat?

Should'nt be, new games will have an firmware update built in anyway. If you're desperate for an update, you can just DL from t'interne somewhere else onto a USB key and update.

you can. go to ps3 site. download latest firmware to your pc. copy it to a usb stick (special folder you have to create on it)

go home. place usb stick in ps3. select firmware update. it'll find it. it'll update.

    the job's a good 'un...

don't think you can get the patches though from usb, you need an internet connection for that as far as i know

i had my ps3 for months without broadband. what you never had you never miss kinda thing. all firmware updates came with the games so no probs there.

i had no patches though but didn't REALLY need them. some games may come out though where a patch IS neccessary. but generally the patches fix some annoying glitch rather than the game being unplayable without them if ya get me.

    i say buy it!

It was defo possible to update through USB about 9 months ago, not sure now but not a big issue, the only thing to be aware of IMO is that alot games being made now have pretty short sinple players games and the real fun comes from going online, so you prob have to put a bit more thought into the games you buy.

Still some great games and a great peice of kit, you won't regret buying it

true - have GTA iv and there was no sign on R* site of downloading an update, but if you popped the game in the drive and were online it went and did the necessary...

Thats grand so. Gamestop have the PS3 with resistance fall of man for €400, so i'm going to go for that. I'm a fan of half life so I might pick up the orange box too.
Anyone have Single player game recommendations?

maybe you should wait for the metal gear solid bundle if there is one???

€400 for a ps3 with resistance doesn't sound like the best deal to be honest but i haven't been looking at the current deals. how much is the grand theft auto iv bundle?
