    chemistry

    #1st question = bleach/iron tabs
    #2nd question = clove oil/ethyne
    #3rd question = temprature + rate
    #4th question = random stuff + moseley/mendeleev/alpha+beta/highly likely
#5th question = sigma + pi, (in benzene) know your orbit/orbital/eng levels
#6th question = synthesis delta H (delta tetha) calculation heat of combustion/formation
#7th question = question 7-9 highly likely to be water treatment + acid/base + equilibruim
#10 question = hess' law, gases
i dont know about Q11-12 but i dont really care my self either cuz if u know all this its guarnteed a good B

    physics
    experiments

    A proportional to F
    boyle's law
    getting refractive index solid/liquid
one of the 2 resistance experiments are a definate
if you know these then its highly likely that you will be able to answer all 3

for normal questions these things i wouldnt go in without knowing
    KNOW UR OPTION
    learn all formulas + definitions
    know all the neuclear stuff
learn electricity stuff very carefully (easy to get marks)

if ur going for a B its really easy
know pracs, do question 5, 10 and 11, do the electricity one and one from the "do 2 parts" question. (any other sugestions are welcome)

    biology
im **** at biology but any way what im doing is learning unit 1 and 2 + all experiments + female reproduction and nervous system

    long questions
    ecology
    genetics
respiration/photosynthesis (dont chance ur arm learn both i'd say)
and female reproductive is a definate

    so here another FREEBIE B

feel free to add stuff i'll edit if u want me to :)

Where exactly is your organic long question and your fuels/thermo one?

also there isnt a question 12 so itd be hard to predict anything for it :D

I've heard that this year equilibrium may come up as a full question this year! Iron tablet titration too. Well that or Ethanoic acid. They'll pick a titration with lots of maths if they put on Ethyne/Ethene in Sect.A.

    those experiments would be amazing....

either that or pick a harder question 3

Ya thats it. Apparently they wouldn't ask the clove oil one cause there is not much to ask about it! Anyone hear anything about chromatography exps coming up? A rates question would be sooooooooooo good.

Industrial or Environmental Chemistry? I'm thinking industrial going by the pattern(every second year), but then again the environment is really topical.

12th question poped up cuz i was thinking ahead for physics LOL

and you can get asked a good whole question on clove oil

    safety precautions (highly likely)
state uses of steam trap/safety tube (highly likely)
uses of aromatic hydro carbons (highly likely)
why use whole cloves and not ground
    colour etc of eugenol
structure of benzene (sort of question 5 or organic thing)
    draw the aparatus (likely)
    describe the procedure (unlikely)

i dont think chromatography will come up because it came up few years back

temp + rate has a graph (hint hint i heard the examiner likes graphs and organic, hes a cork man)

ethanoic acid is way too easy i think and it has appeared not that long ago

    bleach is there 90% chance
    or else iron tablets.

this will be the organic question (likely) or 2 questions
    ionic adition
    draw/name planar compunds
    isomers
    aldehydes vs keytones
    synthesis (conversions)
something on the lines of addition/elimination and reflux

thermo will have hess' law and may be question 10 on esters
    question 11
photo dissociation of ozone/nitrogen and oxygen/residence time

    Bleach WILL NOT come up.

    Why?

    it's a sodium thi/iodine titraton.
A thio titration came up last year and all the q's asked on it are exactly the same as the possible q's on Bleach. eg Why was acidified KI used? etc.

Redox titration more likely.(iron tablets or KMnO4/Fe(II) Sulphate)

    Acid/Base usually for ordinary level

But they could suprise everyone with a water titration..

For organic , Ethyne or Ethanal

Other - Relative molecular volatile liq. or a Rates of reaction one

Ho ho what about ethene rather than ethanal? and benzoic acid as well?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13 nisey89

yea i think iron tablets will come up because the same type of question as bleach came up last year. clove oil , benzoic acid, ethene/ethyne........

what do you all think will come up in Q5??

Oh that's something I meant to find out - why is it acidified? Since there's no Fe or Mn in that titration..

My teacher said Q5 may focus on Ionisation energy since they like it a lot and didn't ask much last year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 137 ✭✭lovechem

KI isn't acidified is it? Sulfuric acid is added to the conical flask with the K & KMNO4 to provide H+ ions for the reaction. The KI provides Iodine with I- ions to be converted to I2 and it keeps the I2 in solution.

    Or am I wrong

    oh god im confused :o

It provides the H+ for the reaction to proceed ( I think?)

Q5 - i'd say Ionisastion Energy trends or periodic table , mendeleev/mosely/ newlands etc..... mass spectrometer seems due up also.

But in the other titrations, doesn't it complete the reaction in the sense that it prevents MnO2 being formed..complete oxidation from Mn+7 to Mn+2..and when there's iron, it prevents formation of Fe+3..but in this one it's just bleach and Na-2-S-2-O-3..

Let's just hope this day next week is a happy one :(

IAA experiment has never come ;) so that might appear!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 jediyoda

benzoic acid is a real player in the chemistry paper

vol analysis iron tabs is probs front runner

wuldnt be suprised to see steam or ethanl there either

shouldnt be the hardest exam will be lookin for top marks!

Is there any chapters in chemistry we could leave out...........like radiation?? ionisation energy for a full Q5 i think and industrial chem... mabe ozon layer stuff? last years paper was pretty hard so hopfully we'l get a nicer one!! HPLC and UV and IR chromatography as a part of Q11 mabe??

    Eeeek whats an IAA experiment??

plus I'm leaving out chromatography because I simply never liked it... lol

the IAA experiment.. i only realised it existed last week, i must have missed the day we did it. its rly horrible experiment, this complicated dilution of IAA, i stil cant rly get my head around it or how to explain it
sorry that wasn't very helpful :p

Im pretty sure that in the case of Bleach, the KI provides I- ions:D

im guessin: Q1- Iron tab/Bleach(hasn't been up yet)
    Q2- Ethyne/Clove Oil(hasn't been up either)

    good luck :)

What do you think will come up in question 3?? cos most the exp predictions are on the first 2Q! i dont think rates will come up because there was a long Q on that last yr with a graph?? so mabe benzoic acid or chromatography

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 Amarie

What do you think will come up in biology and physics??? I really need to know questions....help-help-help....:(
I'm not doing chemistr,so i need biology and physics only...Please help....

yes but if they dont give a question in exp they will give a question on it in the long questions to do with surface adsorption and inter mediate theories etc

practicle is more likely because look at it this way

    2 organics (q 6 and 7)
question 8 or 9 one of them HAS to be eq
the other one is HIGHLY likely to be water (and not reactions because of the probablility of it comming up in question3)

    biology...

id go for respiration exp...photosynthesis experiment was last year.
senses havent been on higher at all so learn them and same wit osmosis experiment

    dna
    genetics
    reproduction
    ecology
    photosynthesis

the winkler plus a titration??? ahh volatile liquid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 jediyoda

all the madnatory exps are guesss work really just try cram 4 between exams 2mo

do benzoic acid, volitile liquid, equilibrium tests, and one of your own chocie :D
