when you say the standard is poor, what weekly tournaments would you consider to be of a high standard? Or more directly, what weekly tournament would you compare the standard to?

How long is a piece of string? Why don't you tell us what games you've played around town and we can compare.

TBH from memory the 50 DC in the Fitz whilst having (of necessity) a fast structure is mainly played by the worst weak tight student types imaginable and if you can prevent yourself from poking your eyes out listening to how they only flat called behind with the underfull etc (because they thought their opponent might have had a bigger house) and you can resist serially punishing the limpers like an absolute maniac every hand (3 times per orbit is fine to keep a decent image lol!) then you should do fine.

If you looking for a better standard of game you should probably play a bigger buyin game with a better clock but the standard will still be fairly bad.

Just go out and enjoy it - its only 55 ffs and come back and tell us how you get on.

fair enough reflection, by poor i mean, nothing to get worked up over. just relax, enjoy yourself and dont be afraid to ask questions.

Interesting, I'm up in the big smoke for 2 days so I'm thinking of playing this tomorrow night. Any pre-requisites of playing in the Fitzwilliam?

I've only played it twice, structure seemed grand to me for a weekly tournament tbh. FT had a 20+ bb stack fairly consistenly both times from memory.

Play a fairly lag game when the antes come in, constant raising, and you'll do fine. The standard is fantastic, in that nobody at all seems to adapt to the introduction of antes and someone at the table constantly making smallish raises pre. I must play this again soon actually, really enjoyed it when I played it.

thats generally the best way to raise, as it costs less.
