The most amazing camp site I've ever been in (worldwide!) was Eagle Point camping just off Bantry Bay, west cork.

Their site is situated on a peninsula, and you can camp down at the end with the sea splashing up on 3 sides, and view across the bay to the mountains. Great facilities too and just a short taxi spin to Bantry. Am looking forward to staying there again sometime ....

I was going to say Eagle Point too!! I've been going there every summer since I was 2. Don't know how long a drive it is from Dublin. There is pretty much only 1 pub within walking distance but there is plenty in Bantry (about 5 miles). Lovely restaurants in there too. I love O'Connors. If you're into cheese and wine, check out "Vals", abotu a ten minute walk from the campsite. He sells lovely Irish cheeses which you can buy along with a bottle of wine and then enjoy them sitting outside his shop - just lovely if the weather is nice!

Anything else you want to know about the place, let me know!

i'd consider coming west out connemara or the aran islands.

although the best place i think is inishbofin - its 7 miles of the coast - get the ferry from cleggan - there is hostel there with camp site for 8e a night i think and that includes use of facilities in the hostel.

there is always a good buzz around it during the summer. a few pubs aswell and usually plenty music going most nights
