looking for general advice on travelling to London. Never been there before, well, for more than a few hours. going with my girlfriend, were both 19, staying in a relatives apartment in Reading (which i hear is quite unsafe!) and were going for 5 days the end of june. were also flying from dublin to heathrow (Terminal 1, thank god!)

    any help is greatly appreciated

    thanks

Reading is ok, but it's not London, it's Surrey. It's to London what Drogheda is to Dublin in terms of distance.

I used to live nearby a few years ago and had friends there, has ok nightlife and is reasonably safe.

You won't be saying 'T1 - thank God' when you have to walk the mile or so from the Aer Lingus terminal points to the exits.

You really should check out the public transport in advance. Nothing is as stressful on this earth than landing in Heathrow and trying to figure-out transport on the spot.

All the Terminals in Heathrow are on the tube. You'll need to connect from the Tube to a regular commuter train service to get out to Reading.
