Bought Item, Paid and then Seller emails a change to payment method

Bought an item on eBay on Friday, paid by Paypal immediately and noticed that according to 'My eBay', the payment for the item was outstanding.

Received an email from the seller today stating they were having problems collecting money from their paypal account and could I forward a cheque or postal order.

I've only ever dealt through Paypal and now am reluctant to continue the transaction.

    Any opinions?

First off, log into Paypal and check has the payment gone through, or been refunded/rejected. If you have your money back, then you could consider other payment options.

You will have no protection for cheque/money order payments, so that can be a bit of a worry. If the seller is having trouble with Paypal, it could be that their account is being suspended for dodgy dealings. That wouldn't inspire confidence.

I would ask what exactly the problem with Paypal is, are they going to sort it, and will they accept Paypal again soon?

and tell them you only bidded on the item on the basis you could pay via paypal, which is probably true.

I have no cheque book. And to get a postal order I would need time off work. Bank transfers take up your time too. I am not fond of paypal but they are convenient, and YOU pay nothing with paypal. If you pay by postal order, then it takes up your time and extra money, and the seller saves his paypal fees.

"Hi, I want you to pay me via something you can't reverse back when I scam you out of the money. Trust me it is 110% secure, you can trust me!!!!!111".

Never do anything on ebay outside of Paypal has been, and will always be, my advice to any person who ask me. Only exception I give is for Germany and bank transfers but beyond that yea, Paypal all the way and let the sellers whine about how they have to pay for being trusted, that is their problem not mine.

I'm definitely agreeing with you all. I contacted the seller yesterday and 24 hours later I still haven't had a response.

Think I will just let this item go if she can't get her Paypal account re-instated!

    Thanks for the help!

Ok, a week on and this transaction is still hanging in limbo!

Seller contacted to tell me their Paypal account was at it's limit and for me to forward a cheque. I wasn't comfortable doing this so I asked on Wednesday if we could mutually agree to cancel the transaction without affecting either of our feedback and still no reply today.

Any one got any advice because as far as Ebay is concerned, I haven't paid for this item!

Leave negative feedback, report the seller. If a non-pay bidder report is made against you, reply to it with the details of what happened.
