Anyone got their tickets yet? I haven't heard but checked the site today, and saw someone thanking them for their tickets. Does this mean they are all gone. You guys heard?

edit: just read that it's just the first batch of 100 tickets that have been sent out, so you could still get called.

Well... that wasn't bad. Big improvement over part one.It has action, light comedy and Hulk Smashing up this and that. Does the job well, loads of references to the Marvel universe. Ain't going to change the way we watch films, but for a stupid comic book movie theres been far, far worse. Entertaining nonsense... plus one hell of a hint at the end for a kick ass sequel.

I thought it was great. Edward Norton and William Hurt were excellent. The plot flowed perfectly, there wasn't too much action and it was broken up nicely. Also the CG was quite impressive and looked good. For me this was the film that the 2003 Hulk should have been.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Yeah, I thought it was great, too. It was great fun and I was so happy that they just ignored the first film all together. During the opening credits I already new it was going to be better than the first one. The CGI looked great, and blended in really well with the real world.

There were loads of references to the TV series too, which were pretty funny at times (I laughed my ass off when Lou Ferrigno appearred). All in all, an enjoyable romp, and makes up for watching the crapfest that was Indiana Jones, the other week.

    hmmmmm.....

I went last night and thought the film to be quite enjoyable. I'm not sure if it's "better or worse" than the Ang Lee one (which incidently, I loved, dunno why everyone hates it). The cast were excellent, I tip my hat in particular to William Hurt and Tim Roth.

The CGI was as good as I've come to expect from a modern SFX tour de force. Comedy value was excellent in places - the use of the TV series end credit music and the appearance of Lou Ferrenga as mentioned above.
I knew they'd make an Avengers reference somewhere, and the mention of Stark Enterprises in the opening credits confirmed this for me. I wonder will they be fighting Hulk (like the first Ultimates story) or joining up with him?

Overall, I'm happy I saw it, but happier that it was free :)

Point of note: WTF do the Savoy cinema think they're doing by making 400 people wait for their mobiles for nearly a half hour? That's a fupping disgrace and will never give them any of my money again. I'll gladly go to free screenings of stuff and will be bringing my own munchies.

    OMG

The Hulk is a founding member of the Avengers see Avengers vol. 1 #1 (1963) so like Duh ! I know 1000 comic geek points for me but still.....

They made you check in your phone ?
I know at one stage they had a jammer and had to get rid of it.

I didnt get to see it but am looking forward to it.

    I believe
Lou Ferrigno also does the hulk's voice?
Or so the director said in an interview!

Well he just shouts "HULK SMASH" and screams a lot, so it'd be hard to tell.

    Well,
at the end battle we see that Bruce is starting to learn to control the Hulk and from the last bit with the meditiation, it gives the impression that he's also starting to learn how to control when he changes, so I'd say he'll be part of the team pretty much from the start.

yea the green eyes and the smile...feckin brilliant

I've always enjoyed the Incredible Hulk, or, at least the "idea" behind the character. The interesting "Jekyll and Hyde" persona always seemed different to other comic book heroes in that Bruce Banner didn't really enjoy turning into an enormous green monster and hurting people.

Ang Lee's film had this, and, so does this new version / sequel.

I was squirming in my seat with excitement during the opening credits, and the wonderful intruduction to Bruce's new life hiding out in Brazil gave rise to some "Bourne" style chases through the town, and culminates in a re-introduction to the Hulk.

And he was actually kinda scary too! Brilliant!

Unlike the above posters though, the part that lost it for me was the "puns". Sure, seeing Bruce buy some stretchy purple pants was fun, along with a few of the other "in-jokes"; but I was just outright confused when the entire audience burst into laughter at the sight of Lou Ferrigno? I don't remember that happening in 2003's Hulk?

Some minor questions that maybe someone can clear up for me:
What was the story with Bruce being worried about his blood in the factory bottles?

    - Was it so that he could "stay off the grid"?

    - His blood was poisonous and would kill someone?

    - Drinking his blood would make you into a hulk as well?

Also - I did NOT like the inclusion of the
    heart-rate monitor
. It's like it was only put in to establish another joke
later on with Betty, "in the bedroom"
    .
What happened to him "getting angry" to turn into the Hulk; not "if his heart rate rises / is unfit / has high blood pressure / etc...???"
    .

Not as good as Iron Man, but...

    8/10

Lou Ferrigno had a cameo in the 2003 movie..as a security guard. He was seen walking out of the lab building with Stan Lee as Banner was walking in.

    Exactly!

That's what I mean - I don't remember the audience in 2003 bursting into laughter and cheering when they appeared on screen?

Were there just a lot of "Hulk Fans" there last night?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

The audience were just in a better mood? Not many enjoyed the first one, so seeing as how people were really getting into this one maybe they just got more enjoyment out of seeing Ferrigno.

    As for your other question,
he new that there was something in his blood and wanted to make sure that nobody else was accidentally infected by it.

So is Stan Lee another super-hero now for having ingested some of Bruce's blood?

Something I liked a lot about the first film was the 1 in a million nature of the experiment that turns Bruce into the Hulk, ranging from his father's genetic experiments years earlier, which were passed on to Bruce, then the combination of the release of the Gamma rays and nanomeds, all resulted in something that was completely random and impossible to replicate.

In this film though, you can just "Stand in front of a gamma projector, or,
    inject yourself with Bruce's blood;
    and hey presto - you're a superhero/villain"

Well, he's super and my hero, but I think they were trying to get across that the blood was diluted and so just had some minor effect on him (though they never say).

You have to bear in mind that the first film had little to do with the Hulk comics and that this one tried to stay truer to the comic style and storyline.

    Also,
Roth could only turn into Abomination after being injected with Banners blood AND being hit with gamma rays. He didn't turn into another Hulk, because the blood was synthesised from Banners blood, and not the real stuff, and also because he had been injected with a high dosage of the Captain America serum. That's why General Ross was so keen to capture Banner, he needed the blood to be able to recreate the results.
