Here's the story....My daughter has her graduation from Secondary School today, their grad is being held in the school gym and I want to take a few photos for keep sake. The gym is fairly bright with natural and florescent light.

Camera is D70s and I'll be using either my 18-70 or 55-200 lenses depending on where my position will be, no flash only the speedlight.

So what settings can I use if my subject is too far for speedlight? I will be handholding the camera so bare that in mind.

if you are beyond the range of the flash, then set the camera to TV mode and set a shutter speed of 1/60 if you are using the zoom (1/125 if the light allows). That will reduce the chance of blur. Better have dark pictures (that could be brightened later on the PC) than pictures ruined by camera shake.

I don't know what the ISO settings are like on that camera but you'll need at least ISO400.

Best of luck on the big day!

    John
