Ok, mods, move or delete if this could be handled elsewhere, but I'm proposing a dedicated thread to Rock Band pricing. I won't lie, this is rather self-serving, but it will help everybody to get the game as cheaply as possible.. I hope.

Ok, for starters, I hear that the whole package can be got for €190 in Zavvi. Which is still far too expensive for most, but cheaper than it could be elsewhere.

Anybody know the cheapest place to buy just the disc?

God idea, I'll be buying in town tomorrow so will have a look around first (unless someone bets me to it here :)). Might be worth calling some Tescos.

I was going to start this thread too :)
Interested to see what comes back... make sure you check the price of standalone drums too.

According to Gamestop in Dundalk the whole package is still €240 :\

Ouch. They are always the most expensive though. My mate paid €115 for guitar hero III there. It was €90 in HMV. €25 is a big chunk of change.

Also, is that a 70/170 breakdown or what??

I can't confirm that, but Gamestop usually charge €70 for the more anticipated new releases, so my guess is yes.

I really don't like them.

Might be time to raid my collection for some trade-ins.

Slightly off topic, but can I trade in Wii games against a 360 title?

I'm sure you can, in Gamestop they basically take the trade ins as one transaction, effectively giving you store credit for them. Then buying the game with that store credit taken off the price. That's how I've always seen it happen anyway.

Edit: on topic, I can say that buying from ebay might still be the best option for PS3 users.

    http://search.ebay.ie/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=ps3+rock+band

Have a look through there for an american version and it might end up cheaper. I know I paid about the asking price for it a few months ago now, was delighted when I heard the Irish RRP cos I knew I hadn't spent much over the top of it to get it early.

Is this Zavvi place in blanchardstown? Some say it's €190 for the first three days, might pop down in an hour and pick one up. Tried rining but noone answered.

Zavvi = Virgin (Why the F**k did they do that?)

Zavvi = Virgin (Why the F**k did they do that?)

Branson sold all virgin shops => now call Zavvi

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 1,863 Mod ✭✭✭✭Slaanesh

€190 all-in Zavvi. can't wait to get home. Cost is being split 3 ways so it's not too bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 538 ✭✭✭Maddzy

I just picked up the whole lot in Zavvi in Dundalk for €165.50 using my student discount card! :D

Also for anyone without a car buying this, be warned the box has no handle making it a pain to carry home :|

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭robby^5

Hmm might pick this up, think Zavvi would still accept a Virgin gift card from Christmas, its still valid but I wonder do they still accept them.

How much does zavvi charge for the drums/game?

    hmv doing any deals?

They have an internet only deal in the UK, was wondering if their stores in ireland had anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,943 ✭✭✭Burning Eclipse

I picked it up in HMV for €65 minus 10% student discount, so €58.49 total. Obviously that's game alone. The guy at the counter said I needed the instruments, to which I replied, 'No, I don't'...

I'm too poor at the moment to justify anything other than the game, and am going on holidays in 5 weeks, so who knows when the drums will be bought?

Whole bundle is €200 in HMV by the way!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭TweekeewT

The cheapest I've seen for the game and drums is

    Argos: Game €50 (Drums €100 :()

Gamestop: Drums €80 (Game €70 )

No guesses where I split my spending today :)

    Couldnt resist, picked it up.

now I am very close to being broke.

Oooh that offer is very, very tempting. Must...resist...urge...to....buy.

Found the following prices yesterday for standalone people only.

    HMV - e65
Game - the one in Dawson St had no standalones, i was quoted e70
    Xtra Vision - e75, not a chance.

Never thought to check out Argos, probably because i've been let down by them so many times with their games. Their stock on release date has often been zero.

    VR!

    i dont get this

so in argos, is the game €50 and the drums €100, taking the price to €150?
or is it €100 for the game and drums?

Game by itself is €50, drums by themself €100.

Which Argos have you seen the game in? It's not currently appearing on their .ie site at all and the staff in Stephens Green didn't have a clue what I was asking about.

They do have it on the .co.uk for £40 though but the catalogue number from that is not found on the .ie.

They're listed separately, so I bought the game in Argos and the drums in Gamestop. (€130 in total)

Got mine in Dun Laoghaire. For some reason it's not listed with a title, and searching using the product code (566/0081) gives no results. It'll show up, though, if you browse the full list of Xbox 360 games. I've just checked and it's in stock in Stephen's Green right now :). The product code does work if you try the stock check by phone (01 2161616).

Think it only appeared on the online listing part way throught the afternoon as it wasn't there initially, but spotted it, reserved online, and now picked up from Stephens Green for 50 notes. :)

I have my guitar hero Guitar, so ill use that for Lead/Bass, and then you can use the Xbox live headset as a mike.

Then the game should cost 50 Euro to buy, if i want to play drums i just head around to my mates. :D

which hmv did you get this in? i was in grafton st. and henry st. ones today and there was no mention of 2100 ms points with it

must say though that i'm pretty tempted. €180 with a student discount isn't too bad and if it does come with the points all the better as theres a few arcade games i've had my eye on although for €165 in zavvi thats even better. I'm still trying to decide if paying that much for a single game is worth it!

I already have the GH2 X-plorer but after standalone game and drumkit i'd almost be better to get the whole lot, then i have 2 guitars and mic for full 4 player, which could lead to some very funny drunken games i'd imagine :p

Also does the 360 headset definitly work as a mic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,586 ✭✭✭cedomination

Yes the headset works for sure, its what I use myself.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

The 360 headset works, you just have to plug it into another controller though and not into the guitar.

I got it in the one on henry street. It wasnt advertised, they were just handed to me at the till as I was paying.

maybe it was a launch day exclusive?

All the same though I'm happy with microsoft points etc the price I payed was what I originally expected to pay and not that 200+ rip off rrp.

Don't know if its been mentioned but its €179.99 in Argos for the kit... If I could find it in stock somewhere it'd be handy as I've a voucher left over from Xmass... All the seem to have in stock is the game..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭KBarry

Any updates on price in the north? Might go up to Newry at the weekend.

That's just for the instruments, though - and that €179.99 is actually €10 more expensive than the RRP.

Ahhhhhh.... Guess I'll pick up the game in argos n the drums in gamestop then.

Where's the cheapest to get the instrument pack?
The game itself can be got for €55 on play.

Just looking on my friends list on my XBOX.. 6 friends online and 5 are playing 'Rock Band'.

Didn't realise so many people bought it.. thought it was a bit pricey meself but might have to get the game anyways and play it with my GH3 guitar (will hopefully pick up the instruments on the cheap at some other stage).

Is it worth buying the pack? Have a €50 gift card for Virgin (or Zavvi) that's burning a hole in my wallet!

EDIT: Can anyone confirm if it is indeed in Argos for €50? Bit of doubt on the thread at some stage. Girlfriend is up in Dublin next weekend so might get her to pick it up.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

It is definitely €50 in Argos for just the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Cheers robinph. Am just after watching a few videos with the drums on YouTube.. have to get them! :D

Cheapest place for drums is definitely Gamestop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

By the looks of it, yes... Got the game in Argos earlier and the GF went to Gamestop in Swords which had no drums left. They sold 10 today, Clarehall had one left so they sold the same today and Donameade was sold out too.... I deffo didn't think it'd be that popular.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Will check my local Gamestop in Sligo tomorrow so.

Speaking of low availability, is it difficult to get the game in Argos? Girlfriend said she'll try both ones in Ilac Centre and Jervis Street SC on Bank Holiday Monday.

EDIT: Checked stock on the website and they're in stock in both Argos branches above. But won't be collecting it til Monday so need to try again on Sunday (as they'll only allow you a one day collection period)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭KBarry

Couldn't wait until going to Newry today :p Got the game and instruments in HMV (Scotch Hall, Drogheda branch) yesterday. It was 200 for the lot. Quite reasonable I thought. Didn't get any MS points though.
Gamestop across the road were looking for 240.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Got the drums yesterday in Gamestop.. have them set up and all but gotta wait til the girlfriend gets the game in Argos on Monday.

Probably will be staring at the drums til then! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭KBarry

Lol I'm staring at the drums too. I'm waiting for my neighbours to go out and then I'm going to batter them (the drums that is, not the neighbours :p)

Lol, I had a nice cup of tea after as well, then tidied up the living room, so I think you have a point. :p

Back on thread.... game and instruments in Zavvi Dundalk for €190.
