Hey folks, here's the latest concoction fresh from my noodle!

Im normally more of a short story person, but been doing a lot of snowboarding of late and got a notion for a poem today so figured i'd have a stab at it!

As ever, comments and critiques are always welcome!

    Snowboarding.

    Relaxed, yet ready,
    Serene, yet anxious,
A Panorama of peaks and sunshine drenched runs
Only a moment for views, serious business, this fun.

A release of breath and I tip the nose down,
The world tightens in and the issues fade out,
Concentration is high, for the end may be nigh,
A second of panic, a flicker of doubt,

Disaster avoided by a reflex forced twist,
The shake of a fist, makes my heart beat much louder,
A quick glance behind lets me see what I missed,
An angry beginner bewildered, by a shower of powder,

Composure regained, I speed on the plane,
Movement and rhythm, each turn the same,
A fine balance poised, on the carve of a blade,
The distinction between, a moment of pleasure and pain.

    Now Stop; a sit down, a moments refrain;

A snowflake falls upon my glove,
Its symmetry dissolves beneath my gaze.
The sun burns bright from high above,
Sigh, Look ahead and back on my way.

Like a fish to the sea, or a bird to the air,
Snap back into time, instinctive, aware.
Decisions unconscious, the board in full flight,
Really pushing it now, the end is in sight.

I slide to a stop, and drop, to the floor,
Release my bindings, clear snow from my board,
Heart slower, now steady, Its hard to ignore,
    The sad truth of it is;

    I’m merely human once more.

Have a little experience of sking (I know, I know two very differnet things) but for me this catches some of the elements really well.

    I liked it.

    Cool nice scribing.

It's got me wishing I was back on my board listening to the sound of a crunchy groomer beneath my feet.

    Whereabouts do you ride?

Living in the Stubai valley in Austria, near Innsbruck for a few months. The Stubai glacier is only a 30min bus away and has snow until July at the earliest (all the runs are between 2000 and 3000 meters above sea level). Been lashing down snow the past few days so its nicely covered in powder.

Wow thats pretty cool, snowboarding on a glacier into summer. Im hoping to do my second season in Vail, US late 09, just have to get the bobs together cause I dont intend working some minimum wage job, just 3 months of solid riding.

Keep up the writing, thats some good stuff there
