What's the problem with iPoker?

    Firstly, hello everyone!
This is my first post here..I have been an avid voyeur for the past 6 months or so and have finally decided to register and get involved!

Anyhow.... here is a quick question re: iPoker skin..
from reading several posts here I got the feeling that the people on this board (I'm assuming seasoned and serious players) seem to look unfavourably upon this skin.
I have read nothing that directly states why exactly, but I am just curious as to what the con's are?
Is it simply unreliable, lack of features, more prone to rigging??

I mainly play on FTP myself(as I'm a mac user), although occasionaly I will play on PPP at a friends place.

Would be interested to hear peoples opinions on this?

Hi and welcome to the forum...

A lot of the posters here play on i-poker inluding myself.....

many seem to have issues with connection problems but I virtually never have these problems myself...

there are loads of things I'd like to see improved on i-poker but I can live with it the way it is for now...

It's certainly not rigged in any way ( altough I do have my moments) the same as any other online poker is not rigged.... Rigged is the bad players excuse for loosing.... the same as poker in general you do get your outdraws but the RNG is fine...

the software is not as slick as FTP or Stars but it's workable and the fish pool is much larger than either of the above...

Let us know how you get on and best of luck at the tables

    Mac

    Cheers for the response Mac.

'Rigged' was a bad choice of word.
I certainly don't think that the large poker sites are rigged (for various reasons) and have mostly heard the term bandied around by bad losing players like you say.

I just asked as I read some posts on twoplustwo where people had suggested that some sites were rigged and these users were presenting 'evidence'. I dont mean straight out rigging the hands, but some other stuff...I think there was a post about the bad beat jackpot on Ultimate Bet being a bit flakey for instance...

I do prefer the interface/features on FTP by far, but I also hear you when you mention the amount of fish on PPP.

Have never actually played Pokerstars but mean to give it a try in the near future. I have only been playing a year or so.

I would never play in an in-browser poker client though, I just think there are too many security issues there.

Way less hands per hour than any of the others is what gets on my beak.

I used to complain alot about connection problems, but since getting a new laptop, i haven't been disconneted at all..... so not really to sure what the story is regarding connections.

Nothing wrong with iPoker. Games are very soft.

Very soft lately too. I call this the Roadsweeper theory "Sure its prob cos all the wasters with no summer jobs are at home with der ma's credit card"-*said in thick Cavan accent.

It has its problems but overall, it a good network.

Sure enough they go soft as soon as I leave or is that just a coincidence?

Yeah, ipoker softness is a myth...They've been in steady decline all year at 100nl anyway.

EDIT: Serious Theresa? I find it virtually impossible to open up more than 1 or 2 30% VPIP tables any time of the week.

They are pretty soft lately alright. Wasters like Theresa giving value lol!

The main drawbacks of iPoker are 1) A lot of people, including myself experience the odd connection problems. A lot of sites face these problems though. 2) Shortstacking nits are everywhere. GRRRRR!!!!!! 3) The software lags a bit behind the competitors, for instance, not as many hands per hour, updates are slow in coming around etc.

The main reason that you have noticed that iPoker is ripped apart regularly is that a lot of the posters here play iPoker. If the majority played on MicroGaming we'd be tearing them to shreds every day too. Its just volume.

Dead serious. The regs at 100nl are sick spewy. The nits are very very weak and the fish are well... not plentiful but when they are there, they are terrible.

Also, the weekend on iPoker in unreal.

    I don't play there anymore

    Negatives for me are:
    - The software is terrible, in particular that I can't resize the tables
    - I disconnect a lot - I can't remember the last time I disconnected anywhere else
    - The games are no softer than other sites (softer than Stars/FT alright)
    - Less hands per hour

On the plus side bonuses etc are pretty good

Well I'm on GJP at the moment and I can't get a good run at games because of all the lagging and disconnecting. Really is annoying.

I honestly pretty much never experience connection problems with ipoker. Not more than any site.

Crazy with the AQs vs KK last night man! :D

Haha, seriously though, would you not consider that as slightly crazy play? Did you feel as if you were ahead?

Not to derail the thread but if memory serves....Someone raised, I 3 bet with aqs, he flat called. The flop comes jack rag rag with two spades, I bet probably around half pot and he min or something close to min raised me and I shoved?

I just felt I'd a tonne of fold equity, he min raises with alot of hands he folds despite now getting a decent price as my hand looks very very strong (Some total air, some top pair hands he may fold, draws, and the other side of it is things like a set). I think he folds most of the first half of that except the draws which I'm in excellent shape against, and if he does call, I've the nut flush draw and probably at least one live over. As it happened, he'd slowplayed kings pre, and I'd 12 outs for the slight wrong end of a 50/50 with a load of dead money in the pot so I was getting the right price anyway.

I just felt he folds alot of hands he takes that line with and I've the flush draw if not.

not just ipoker but imo if you are a shrotstack in latter stages of a mtt or a SnG u dont stand a chnce 90% of the time....u could go in dominating and be sucked out on as i believe they do it to get the tourney finished quicker. some may disagree but how often do you see the same amount of bad beats in live poker.
