    Hi,
Can anyone tell me where I can get an all in one DIY satellite system similar to the one they were selling in LIDL a while back?

The Aldi / Lidl systems are nowadays bad value:
    Old receivers
    flimsy brackets
    often dish too small
often cable tv / FM radio coax instead of satellite coax.

A "special" even in expensive Maplin is better value. Check the stickies. And the signatures of some regular posters :)

Germany I find is often better than UK for ordering. They use same currency and often speak better English.

I was thinking about getting this package for €99 of freesat.ie:

    http://www.freesat.ie/index.php?cat=DIY_satellite_systems1

Is this worth the money? Is it better than the one Lidl are offering?

    How about this package here:

    http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/DIY_satellite_systems.html

It maybe slightly more expensive, but you also getting a good quality triax dish. You also have the option for upgrades for a few euro more.

I purchased from here in the past. Great service and fast delivery. Tony is always on hand to give free technical advise..Which is very important too..

That is value for money when you consider that the German sites which I mentioned above charge +-€25- shipping , and you have no problems with German language or their Cr Card phobia .

Do remember to order cable and f connectors.

You realise the specials in expensive Maplins regularly include exactly the same kit as sold in Lidl/Aldi, but at a higher price.

The current SL65/12 is sold in many guises from many retailers and is internally (both hardware and software) quite different to the original SL65 from 2005 which also came in a 2CI version. The current version is at most 2 years old, hardly making it obsolete.
It did receive a "not entirely dire" review in a recent Satellite magazine.
    Then it is German.

There is absolutely no denying that the brackets on most of the ALliddil dishes are flimsy, the camping dishes too small for permanent installation, the larger dishes easily bent and not exactly rust proof, and the supplied coax adequate for a short washing line.;) :)

Yes, only some Sat systems in Maplin are good and they do have some essentially identical ones. I'm not impressed with the Fortec. The WS switching is not automatic, only by menu.

I should have said I was thinking of the 80cm more robust dish/newer receivers, not a Maplin camping system :)

Two years is a long time in Satellite Receivers. :(
