    Hi
I have just moved into a new house and was wondering if there is anything similar to the sky offer a few months ago where they were offering a free sky+ box with the introduce a friend to sky offer. Another thing i was thinking of is should i hold out to see if the Freesat service becomes available in Ireland anytime soon?

    Rgds

BBc HD is available right now. I cannot give you prices for obvious reasons, maybe someone else can pitch in.

There are 3 ways to get the UK free channels with BBC HD:

    1) Sky HD (though it won't record BBC HD), with or without a subscription
    2) Generic FTA satellite receiver with HD
    3) UK "Freesat" branded HD receiver.

    1) has advantage that a sub will give RTE/TV3/TG4 in real WS, with a subscription. Disadvantage is that no ITV HD.
    2) has the disadvantage that there is no complete program guide (EPG), no automatic tuning/adding of channels to line up, no Interactive features, no Satellite based digital text (BBC & ITV don't do terrestrial Teletext on Satellite, like RTE does).
    3) Has disadvantage you can't add RTE or other pay channels later.

    see the suppliers sticky.

You don't need a phone line & sky sub to buy without subsidy and without install a SkyHD box.

2 or 3 is best value if you get the 4 Irish channels OK (roof aerial recommended, and Digital Widescreen coming soon to 80% of the country via aerial)

Is this the 3-way DTT competition or does RTE/TV3/TG4 on its own come sooner than that? Late 2009 right?
