Problem with changing strings

Hi, Ive been playing guitar for about a year now and changed my own strings for the first time on Monday(I used bring it to the local music shop and have someone here do it for me). But since I changed them, I've been getting a horrible buzzing sound off the E and A string when i play 7th fret or below. I think its due to the bottom of the string vibrating off the last fret before the bridge but I'm not 100%.

Anyone ever have this problem before and does anyone know how I can fix it?

    Thanks in advance. :)

Sounds like you put on lighter strings than were on it before. You just need to set the guitar up for the tension of the new set of strings. You'll need to make a minor adjustment of the truss ros in the neck. There are plenty of setup guides in the instrument resources sticky at the top of the forum. Have a read, understand the concepts and then get stuck in. It's not too hard and you should be grand if you take your time :)

Also, don't forget that new strings need to be stretched. This takes a lot of the slack and 'flop' out of them.

Here's a pretty good link for adjusting your truss rod (although it is an extended ad for Stew-Mac products it still has all the info you need on one page)

What sort of guitar is it? If it has a stoptail bridge you may have lowered the bridge slightly when shanging the strings. You could fix the problem by just raising it again. Did you tune up to concert pitch too? There maybe easier solutions to truss rod adjustment.

Its a Fender Standard Mexican Telecaster. Tried adjusting the truss rod but the allen key that came with the guitar doesnt fit in so well and it hasnt really made much of a difference to the buzzing sound.

The hole the allen key goes into could be gunked up with sawdust etc left over from the build process, try cleaning it out. They should have supplied the correct sized key with your guitar. If not get back onto where you got it from. On the other hand allen keys are very cheap. Definitely do not use the key if it is too small otherwise you will round out the hex shaped hole and then not even the correct sized key will work.
