Using only sections of connecting flights

    Hi guys,

Only ever flown one sector flights before e.g. DUB - LHR but was wondering what the situation was with only using sections of the travel. Have found some flights to the US are cheaper if you add on additional sectors e.g. DUB - EWR - ORD but was wondering do you have to go to the end destination of can you ask at the airport to just go to say EWR and then return from there too i.e. ignoring the ORD flight?

    Thanks in advance,
    Daniel

You will have a problem if you want to check your bags trough as they would go on to ord.

If you don't continue onto the end destination on the outward flight they'll probably cancel your entire homebound flight. You're paying for something in a package and with increased security these days if people don't turn up for a flight and their bags are on it there will be major trouble. Worth chatting to a travel agent about it.

More to do with them then being able to re-sell the return leg at a seriously increased price on some last minute deal after you don't use it. The likes of Ryanair though will just sell more tickets than there are seats on the plane as lots of people just won't bother turning up but other airlines will cancel if you don't turn up for one leg so that they can re-sell the ticket and get a full plane again.
