My ps3/router et all are about to take a hop out the window as i've tried everything to get ps3 online and cant.

i have a digiweb 1 mb connection and have the ps3 wired connection set up. it recognises IP address but that its keeps failing on DNS issues.
i have got the DNS figures from ipconfig/all in dos on my pc and have input both of them and still no joy - tried everything i've read on the net too and still the dns error persists! anyone else have similar problems?

Do u have your internet connection on the 'allow other network users to use/access this connection' setting .

go to properties on your internet connection on the pc and tick the box for the above setting if you don't.

    hope that helps

PS: ip address can be used just to transfer files or stream music etc to and from an pc even if there is no internet connection available

Thanks jcoote but i already have the internet connection to allow other network user etc.
I knew IP address didnt necessarly mean internet its how i knew my network is working just not the internet on ps3.
Is there anything else this DNS thing can be?

By chance do the OpenDNS ips work for consoles? I dont know myself, just throwing it out there.

    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

Assuming you have a static IP for your ps3.

i've tried the open dns 'codes' aswell and still no luck. i have a IP address set so i presume that means its a static one??

After having and enjoying my PS3 for many months I'm just after getting this error now as I've tried to fire up a game of COD4. OP by any chance are you with UPC?

UPC is the company that own NTL, who provide broadband. After experiancing the same issue as yourself last night I thought your ISP might have been NTL.

i have NTL and i was playing COD4 on Monday night and i got signed out of the PSN , anytime i tried to sign back in all i got was dns errors . even with a direct connection and resetting the cable modem , in the end i switched to my BT connection and it all worked fine.

i have also been getting alot of content pack errors in COD4 ( not sure yet if it's NTL related ) , dumping me out of a game and back to the lobby .

Is Digiweb a phone-line DSL broadband or one of the wireless box based broadband packages?

On UPC myself and I do seem to be encountering alot of connection problems when playing online. The amount of games that have ended on me because the wireless connection was interrupted is just not funny. Signing into games and then trying to find a game is getting annoying at this stage.

I was playing the game yesterday evening and it was grand. I went back to it last night and got the connection interrupted malarky followed by a DNS error. I tried resetting both the modem and router and nothing made a difference. I tried a direct connection and nothing. It eventually came back by itself.

Last sunday and on monday NTL had a problem in the D7 area and there was no TV or broadband service for several hours. I've only experienced the DNS error since then. I wonder if the two are related.

well i have just found out that it is not just an NTL issue :( i have been playing for a few hours on BT connection and i just to signed out of the PSN then i kept on getting a dns error every time i tried to sign back in .

in the end i did a internet connection test in the PS3's network settings and it was all back to normal and i could sign back in , i did not even need to restart the connection.

ooppss it's done it again

    and again
