    Hi There,

I'm looking for some film recommendations please.

I'm not sure what the exact genre is called - 'mystery' perhaps. I used to love old murder mysteries - Agatha Christie / Hitchcock that kind of thing but now I mostly prefer more modern films (although being set in the past is fine).

Two films I liked in recent years are Gosford Park and Atonement. Things like that set in stately homes where there's a good story and possibly some twists along the way.

Anyone recommend anything like this for me? I find it hard to search for something specific on movie sites.

Also I normally prefer British films to American (but I'm open to conversion!)

Can anyone recommend anything that I might enjoy? - thanks :-)

Definitely give Zodiac a go, its a great lengthy film that lets the audience play detective, whilst you're able to make your own mind up about the mystery itself

While not strictly a 'murder-mystery' The Machinist is worth a look.

If you have never seen it I recommend very strongly 'Chinatown' starring Jack Nicholson, directed by Polanski.

It has a very absorbing plot. Youll be gripped the whole way through. Its a detective story but it has strong symbolic elements in the plot which will make you watch it again.

    Also the acting is superb.

Something I forgot to recommend is the French film Tell No One, which is absolutely fantastic.

Along Came A Spider was a horrible adaptaion of the book.

    I'd recommend Insomnia.

Is One Hour Photo any good?

Yes, Robin Williams is remarkably creepy in it.

Murder By Decree '70s movie mystery where Sherlock Holmes investigates Jack The Ripper. It's available on DVD.

A modern murder mystery? How about 'From Hell' with Johnny Depp, also being about Jack the Ripper. I also agree that 'Zodiac' is a brilliant film and well worth watching.
If you were willing to consider older films, then I'd recommend some early Argento such as 'Bird with the Crystal Plummage' and 'Deep Red'.
