JJ hints at this on his TED presentation "The Mystery Box".

"Mystery is sometimes more important then knowledge".

when the writers start to admit that they had to lie in the past and debunk theories in order to keep the story alive... it's too late.

yeah but it really depends on whether the mystery is so big that whatever it is actually revealed to be will not meet the viewers expectation, like the contents of the cases in Ronin and Pulp Fiction.

JerryHandbag, Season 4 is arguably the best written and most tightly produced and well put-together season of Lost yet. If you were watching it religiously so far and enjoying it, chances are you'll love Season 4.

I agree. I watched season 1 and 2 religiously. I was a bit more casual with season 3 but I eventually watched all episodes. Season 4 is excellent. I think it is extremely well produced. Maybe because of the writers strike they had to be very selective over what makes the production sheet and the final cut. I'd imagine the producers / writers were under more pressure to get the same high quality show done in less time so it was quality rather than quantity.

it'l probally drag on for so long, that it will get cancelled and no one will ever know what happens. It'l be one of thoes stories you tell to your great grand kids around the fire at christmas.

"There was once a man named Ben, he was part of the Others.."

No it won't since they've already stated exactly when it is going to end. So it won't be cancelled and it will come to a conclusion.

Of course the question is - will anyone be satisfied by it?

if ratings fall, it will be droped, its unlikely, but it could happen, its all good that they say when its going to end, but they have to get their first.

Ratings are are fine for season 4. Even if they are bad for season 5 abc would never drop it with 1 more season to go
