Does anyone know of anywhere (online or otherwise), except for DELL, I could buy a laptop with either no O.S. on it or Linux. I know I could do an install myself but I don't want to have to pay for a windows OS which I am not going to use.

Yeah ... they're very sexy indeed but unfortunately don't have the specs I'm after. :)

They do Thinkpads. Anyone know much about them? Surely there must be someone shipping all the standards with Linux? HP, Toshiba etc....

IBM Thinkpads are very decent. Really aimed at business/pros who aren't looking for frills.

EDIT: If you really want a HP, Toshiba, Dell machine or whatever, purchase it from them and then argue that you didn't want Windows and get refunded a few Euro. I know people have managed to do this with Dell; not sure about the other manufacturers.

As far as I recall, legally you can refuse the EULA when you first boot up the new laptop and then get on to Microsoft and get your money back. Not sure in practice though how you would go about it.
