Does anyone have an info on when the N96 will be released on O2 Ireland, I rang customer service and they didn't have any date and the agent I spoke to said she never heard of the N96 :(

I have a N95 8Gb at the moment but have a diamond upgrade ready to go but only have 3 months to use it, I was looking on the nokia site and they have August on there so I would be cutting it close it that date is correct.

Do you think its worth waiting for it to be released or maybe get a 2nd N95 ?

Also O2 have got new price plans listed has anyone else got chance to look at them ? the main problelm I see is that unused minutes are not carried over, which for me is something that should happen tbh and they have also added some 18month contracts which I don't like one bit

you can choose between 12 month or 18 month contract on o2 as far as i know, unless you want an iphone, which comes with an 18 month contract. choosing the longer contract on different phones just reduces the handset price.

As for the N96, i doubt it will be available on o2 within 3 months. It will be released sim free by nokia first, with a massive price tag. Then the interested networks will test it to see how compatible it is with their systems.

This is usually what happens, but if i remember correctly, the n95 8gb was available on vodafone very quickly after release, probably because they had previously tested the n95-1 on the network already.

I know this doesnt exactly give you an answer on when it will be released, but my guess would be not in the next three months on o2.

I would be wary of the 02 clear offer.

Doesn't let you carry unused minutes or texts.

My current 02 plan does let me carry so I don't have to even worry about minutes or texts. Already on fully double my monthly allowance from active 150.

I know it doesn't really answer the question:

With 02 hell bent on making us buy an iphone, i wouldn't be surprised if the N96 pops up on Vodafone first as well.

02 clear is unlimited (to O2) so it wouldn't make any sense to carry over anything.

Pity there isn't a mixed plan. Unlimited to O2 but a cap on minutes/text to other networks, and you can carry the latter over.

I guess they still have to make money on it somehow.

Are you so sure you want an N96? The review on m-r isn't exactly glowing for such a high-end handset..

Not really sure how creditable the review is as it was done on a prototype - "Basically, with the prototypes we got our hands on, it is impossible to judge the N96’s real build quality or UI speed and reliability"

Still cant wait to get this phone...

The major drawback with the original silver N95 was the battery life.

So what do Nokia do? Put the same battery into the N96

This is called planned obsolesence. After a big rush on the N96 after release, we'll see a N96-2 maybe with 32 GB internal memory and better battery life.

    Conclusion:
OP I'd say you'll be better sticking with the current phone.

It just seems a tad on the chunky side for me. Not to mention the chunkiness of the anticipated price tag =P

On the face of it looks like an amazing device.
Have to laugh at how all these uber devices (Tytn II/Advantage/E90/N96 etc) are priced initially though.
Separates the real early adopter from the common-or-garden early adopter i guess. :P
    Anyone buying one for 935.

Official release date for UK on all major networks: Oct 1st ;)

and again: expansys prelease prices are never right ;)
heck, last year before the first iphone, they advertised a simfree iPhone as coming soon... They also shortly had the first n95 as coming soon for sth like euro800.oo! They err on the higher side...it's a marketing trick ;)
